I just remember thinking everything I bought in my birthday month was justified by telling myself it's a  birthday gift to myself.

When the girls were growing up, I rarely ever bought things for myself.   Once they became financially independent, and our expenses decreased, I began to buy more for myself, but never went too wild.  

After my knee replacement and awesome recovery, I bought myself a nice pair of diamond earrings as a "to me, from me".   Then there a new Brahmin, and then a Michael Kors handbag at a great sale price.  Last year I had a custom china cabinet made by the cabinetmaker who made my new kitchen cabinets, and then bought more china to round out the set I received from my grandmother.   

My husband not only hates to shop, but he's really not any good at it.   He likes it when I buy something I like, and want, and never asks how much I spend.
