I was challenged, and since there was no way I was going to get doused with cold water, I donated instead.

It it either the donation or the dousing. Some people do both.

I think most people do both...they have made close to 20 million in one month!

Not many. Looks like maybe 10%, based on ~3 million posts/mentions on fb and twitter, compared to 260,000 new donors to the ALS association since this campaign started. Doesn't take into account the people who have donated instead (and not mentioned it) or people who had donated previously who participated in the challenge. It's definitely raised a lot of money though.
