Many years ago when we bought our first house I used to go home from work for lunch. One day while I was eating lunch I kept hear noises coming from the attic. It creeped me out but I left the house without checking and went back to work. Came home that afternoon and I still heard the noises. Finally I got up the nerve to pull down the attic stairs. Down came a neighbor's cat Pokey walking down the stairs like he owned the place.

The houses in this neighborhood were built in the 50's and the utility rooms were attached to the back of the house. You had to go outside to enter the utility room. The rafter on one side of the room was open to the attic. It turn out that Pokey had gone into the utility room climbed up on the washing machine and into the open space between the room and the attic. Pokey's owner told me that he had been in every attic in the neighborhood. From then on I kept the door to the utility room closed to prevent any animals other than Pokey from getting in the attic.

I wish I had all of these experiences.  Because I had the real thing twice.  I think I mentioned this before.  First time was after we came to the U.S.  The university that gave my father his job and furnished us with an apartment in L.A.  A few months after were living there, we had a home invasion.  I called it a burglary  with the burglar.  He broke in and woke me up.  Everyone else was asleep. I saw him  come in. Didn't see me as a heap of laundry was on the bottom of my bed.  I was small.  He crept down the hall & woke my dad up.  He yelled.  Scared the burglar and me.  We crashed into each other other, then ran in the opposite direction. I hit the wall (so did the burglar) He finally ran out with everyone running around. They never found him.  i remember when the detectives came.  I was sure I was going to arrested (for crashing into the guy) I hid under the bed.

@songbird   So scary.  Would be scary as an adult, really scary as a child.  I'm so sorry you experienced that.
