Re: Kitchen Applicance Colors

I have a combination of black and stainless steel and think those work well with each other. I refuse to replace my 12 year old Whirlpool WHITE refrigerator and so there is one appliance that doesn't match, but I don't care. It works, it's had 2 minor service calls in its lifetime. When it comes time to replace it (SOB) I'll get a stainless frig that has a black cabinet -- stainless refrigerators usually have a funky grey cabinet but they do make them with black. I like the combo look. But I'm hanging onto my white frig for as long as possible!  I've not had any issues keeping the stainless clean - there are special cleaners/wipes for that and they work well.

Black will work with stainless steel. If you'd look at my stainless steel stove, only the control panel and drawer are stainless. The entire oven door is black so it looks more black than silver. Personally, my desire is to migrate to black appliances. I regret going with stainless appliances four years ago, but they aren't ready to be replaced yet.

Re: Kitchen Applicance Colors

I have mismatched new fridge in stainless and stove and dishwasher are black. I didn't do it intentionally.  We are planning to replace  both dishwasher and stove in a year .  I had thought I would  replace them with stainless.  But I Hate  THE STAINLESS. I JUST HATE IT.  THE COLOR IS DEPRESSING, and it is always looking dirty. I am going to get another color.   So I don't know what I will do.  As far as quality, most all the dishwashers are awful if you bought in last 20 years. Several years back I had appliance man out 8 times because of a glitch  in new stove .  Each  repairman commented on my old kitchen aid dishwasher. They said don't ever replace it if it still works. They said they make all their money on repairing dishwashers.  One guy said , he didn't care what brand, and how much you paid most have flaws and meant to work for 5 years. They all suggested when I do replace, don't go for all the bells and whistles.  The more basic the better.   So maybe go for as basic as you can go if you have to replace. For stoves, ovens or ranges I suggest Viking, Thermador  and there are a couple more brands ( that escape me now) that are well worth the extra money.   Viking is very pricy, but so worth it if you like cooking and baking.. I don't envy finding new appliances.  We all want reliable, little maintainence and looks. But we have to watch pocketbook as well. It's hard!

I have a JennAir downdraft range I do like. It has some nice amenities, looks great and has interchangeable top units that are handy. We had an issue when we got it as I said.  But we have had it for 10 years now without any issues. BUT my new appliance with be gas, not electric. It was 4,000 to bring gas into kitchen when we got the stove. It will be more now I know but will prepare myself and get it.

OP, Nope you gotta have all stainless if your other appliances are stainless. But I'm with your son, every brand has their own "color" of stainless. And I find that the smudgeproof stainless of today doesn't match the older stainless. You will regret getting black, stick with the uniform look of all stainless.

My stove and dishwasher are black my fridge is stainless steel color.  Looks ok to me.  I dont think it looks mismatched at all.  I like to looks of the black but I would not have it again.  If I had to replace one of my black appliances I would get either stainless or white.  I could not afford to replace all of the appliances at once just so they match.

I am not a stainless steel fan at all--in my house, I got the bisque color appliances and the last time I bought a dishwasher --in 2019 --I did go with stainless steel because the other colors, like that bisque was not available anymore----if and when I get to shop for new appliances, they will not be stainless/black--have both colors  in my tiny kitchen in my apartment and I HATE them---I have a Vitamix in a champagne color that would be my first choice if available in appliances.

@AuntG You are right.  My microwave, oven, stove and fridge, though stainless steel, all have black in them.  I think a black dishwasher might be the way to go.

@wagirl I think we had bisque in our old house.  It was very pretty and blended nicely with wood cabinets.  It is risky going with anything other than stainless, black, or white, because if the color is not popular, they will stop making them.

@CoffeeNut Oh gosh, I did not know there was such a thing.  I just looked at some photos online.  It looks nice - not a solid black, more like a dark grey.
