Re: Kitchen Applicance Colors

We just got a new dishwasher yesterday as our 9 year old stainless Kenmore wasn't cutting it anymore.  We got a Bosch and it is also stainless steel.  The dishwasher is far enough away from the wall ovens and refrigerator that are also stainless Kenmore to notice if the stainless steel did not match exactly.  It looks fine.

I did the same as @ninjawife and chose another brand of dishwasher when it needed to be replaced. Far enough away from other appliances you can't tell difference in finishes.

Personally I am sick of stainless steel appliances (for myself) as they can be a pain to keep clean. I know there are new SS finishes available that don't show prints as much, but I just kind of want to go to those upgraded white appliances I see on tv programs. Alas, my husband and I differ on that choice. Smiley Happy

Re black appliances, I have not cared for the black appliances because I swear they are spice magnets. Someone shake the salt at the dinner table and there it is on top of the stove.

Love the black - no fan of SS.  More complaints about  keeping SS fingerprints = clean..

Re: Kitchen Applicance Colors

I think the black is more difficult to keep shiny.  Shows a lot of smudges.

Don't blame you for wanting to stay away from GE. appliances. Not fully US owned any longer.

"It has been majority owned by Chinese multinational home appliances company Haier since 2016.[5] It is one of the largest appliance companies in the United States and manufactures appliances under several brands,[6] including GE, GE Profile, Café, Monogram, Haier and Hotpoint (Americas only, European rights held by Whirlpool Corporation)."

I would think long term........if you are planning on replacing all the appliances, don't worry about the color short-term - think about the quality of the appliance and what you want to end up with down the road.

Re: Kitchen Applicance Colors

These days, stainless steel appliances are "finger print resistant." I had GE appliances at the house I moved from in April, and they lasted 20+ years. The only thing I replaced was the microwave, and that was year 17.

In my new house, I put in a GE stainless dishwasher, a GE stainless oven/stove, a GE stainless Microwave, and a Whirlpool stainless refrigerator (the retailer was out of stock of the GE larger refrigerator). They are all finger print resistant. My GE washer & dryer are navy blue, and I really like the color.

I had a different major brand dryer in my last house that was not GE. The drum inside the dryer fell from its inside place and caused the metal of the drum to hit the metal inside the dryer. That caused sparks and was smoldering and ready to start a fire. I replaced it with a GE dryer and had no problems.

Re: Kitchen Applicance Colors

@Puppy Lips I've always been a white appliance girl...until my stove "broke" last year. Not only would the white stove I wanted need to be ordered--and who knows when it would've been delivered--the white one cost $500 more than the exact same model in stainless steel!

So I got the stainless stove. My fridge and dishwasher are white, and I'm not replacing them til they break. Honestly, one stainless and two white appliances hasn't really bothered me at all, and I thought it would!

I've seen this as well. They make the appliances blend in with the kitchen cabinets. You can't even immediately tell which doors are for the fridge.

Re: Kitchen Applicance Colors

This has been interesting..... When we moved into our 60 yr old house three years ago, I was very happy to see GE appliances (side by side refrig, Stove/Oven, dishwasher.  Was told the microwave was just replaced (with a Samsung?.... Interesting).  Learned that all the appliances except the microwave were only four years old.  Well....after using them, I really, really thought that these pieces were purchased as "seconds". that's how sub-par I've found them!  The only redeeming value has been that everything except the microwave (it's stainless steel) is all black and I love all black appliances.

So now we have three additional years on our four year old GE appliances and I can bet that I'll only get about 10 years life from them.  I never had any GE before and I plan to do a lot of research before we replace them.... GE has been very disappointing.  Woman Sad
