Re: Kentucky Derby Winner Tests + For Steroids

The topic here is drugging horses, not humane athletic practices.  As long a Baffert operates with impunity he will continue doing as he wishes and denying accusations as "mistakes".  If there are no consequences, why not? He should lose his trainer license.  It would be interesting to know what kind of record other top trainers have.  For all we know, they might have even more incidents and this is a common practice.

@GoneButNotForgotten I'm no trainer, that's just my own personal opinion, as I stated.

Re: Kentucky Derby Winner Tests + For Steroids

Years ago, I posted some sort of (my) solution.....something about horses racing similar to men/women track racing.

Each horse keeps on it's own track, and the one who raced the fastest in a certain amount of time wins.

Well, something to think about, no matter how it sounds.......

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

Greyhound racing was banned in Florida, so those places are shut down. Don’t know if they do it in any other states.

Re: Kentucky Derby Winner Tests + For Steroids

Baffert obviously knows the rules regarding drug testing both before and after a race.  With a race as important as the KD, I don't think he would approve anything like that.

Could the owner or someone else on the team have done it?  It's possible so let's wait for the final investigation to conclude.

From TMZ:

Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit was allegedly juiced up when he won the race, because he apparently tested positive for steroids.

The legendary Bob Baffert, the horse's trainer, broke the news Sunday that the test results showed the presence of corticosteroid Betamethasone. It's kinda technical, but the sample came back positive for 21 picograms of the drug. It's used as an anti-inflammatory.

This means the horse could be disqualified. BTW ... Medina Spirit is the only horse in the race to test positive.

Baffert denies doing anything wrong ... "I don't know what's going on, but there's something that is not right.” It's not official till the split sample comes. Usually, we wait for that, but I wanted to get in front of it."

Facts are facts, and this would be Baffert's 5th medication violation since May, 2020.

The good news for bettors ... they won't have to give their money back. The bad news for Baffert, the trainer and the jockey ... they'll have to return their winnings if their appeal fails.

If Medina Spirit is stripped of the win, it'd be the first DQ since 1968, when Dancer's Image won but was later disqualified for an anti-inflammatory drug.

Five times???? And he's still around????

Why would it be offensive? It's your opinion! It's mine, too. Can't watch, won't watch.

Does anyone know why aren't horses tested for drugs BEFORE the race?

Very Good question ,   It should be mandatory I feel !   I'm sure it's because the rich and powerful involved within wouldn't want there dirty little secrets exposed !

They are tested before and after the race. If Baffert has had 5 horses fail the test since May 2020, why wasn’t he already banned? I despise abusing innocent horses by injecting them with painkillers so they can make them perform injured....all for the sake of money. Wish they would ban horse racing, dog racing, and rodeos. They all torture animals imho.

@lovesrecess @Sorry didn't see this post before commenting above .   I didn't know they were tested before and after.   I wonder though if tested then how  was it missed ??   Who is actually testing is the Question ,  means nothing if Baffert or the owner is testing .   And if it is an unbiased person I'm sure there paid well to lie
