I always see the British royal family trashed here, but I wonder how many realize that many countries in Europe still have royal families, even if they are largely in ceremonial roles? No one complains about them.
Traditions and history are generally more valued in Europe than in the United States. Perhaps because they’ve been around a lot longer than us.
Does anyone know why June was chosen? Weather?😁
@bikerbabe I don't understand why anyone would celebrate someone they don't know just because they were born to a family with a military/conquering heritage. I just don't find that worth celebrating. I do like the arts and pageantry for their aesthetic value. I love looking at the old buildings and learning history. But I don't see what these people are accomplishing these days.

@Linmo No, I did not, I am not confused. Based on the title, I thought the post was about Martin Luther King, Jr., because that is a subject that intertests me, and I wanted to read what the poster wrote. The poster was writing about something completely different.
Even I who have little interest in the current British royals knew the British King or Queen's birthday is not celebrated on their actual birthdays so the dates of those birthdays is immaterial.

Why doesn't Juneteenth have an actual date so people know when it is?
@Tinkrbl44 I am so sorry you do not know about United States history. Maybe you are British? You may not want to assume what other people know based on what you know. Juneteenth is a federal holiday, and it is also a holiday in many states. It is June 19th. It is the day when enslaved people in Texas learned they had been emancipated. News traveled slowly in 19th century US. You can google Juneteenth, or at a minimum, read about it in Wikipedia.

The British royalty pales in comparison to U.S. citizens when it comes to charitable contrinutions.
The British report that the Queen "helped generate" at least $1.4 billion a year for charity in 2021. "Help generate" is not a donation. It means the royals asked other people to give.
Meanwhile, in the United States, Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates donated $15 billion of their own money in 2021 to charitable causes. MacKenzie Scott donated over $3 billion of her own money in 2021. Michael Bloomberg donated $1.6 billion of his own money in 2021. Warren Buffett has donated over $48 Billion to charity. There are many others but these are the richest people I know off the top of my head.

I recall that. For those who don't recall, the question begs to be asked ... on what date is "Juneteenth"? Who thought the word, with no actual date, was a good idea?
@Tinkrbl44 Your post makes no sense. I am concerned about you based on this and other posts you have made. Do you live with someone or have family near you that can help you out if needed?

Good point. Since this is probably our "newest" national holiday, it would be nice if it had an actual date. JMO, of course.
As you have been told many times, it does have a date, June 19. Take care.

You are comparing one time large donations to 70 plus years of donations.
You have overlooked the personal involvement of the Royals, day after day and year after year, to those who set up foundations named for themselves with tax incentives.

It seems there are some who need to do research about the RF before they bash or belittle them in what they give back.
The Prince's Trust
It all began in 1976, when His Majesty King Charles III, when he was His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, had a bold idea.
Having completed his duty in the Royal Navy, HM The King Charles III became dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged young people in the UK. He founded His Trust to deliver on that commitment.

I did not overlook anything. My post described yearly charity as a point of comparison.
You have not identified a single donation by the British rotalty.
The British rotalty are compensated handsomely by British taxpayers for their time promoting charities and asking other people for money.
Bill Gates is only 67, has already donated more than $50 billion to charity of his own money. As I wrote last night, Warren Buffett has donated over $48 billion to charity. Michael Bloomberg has given away $14.4 billion over his lifetime; Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan have contributed $3.9 billion to charities so far; and Jeff Bezos $2.79 billion. These are only a handful of the US biggest donors.
How much have the British royals donated of their own money?
