ITA ..... Since Charles' birthday is in November, it seems like just another excuse for pomp and silliness ... at the taxpayers' expense, of course.

I know @bikerbabe.
I was just responding/reacting to comments about the whole thing and how others felt about thinking about the significance of this day. I know England has their history and are "celebrating" the trooping of the colors his birthday etc.

Why doesn't Juneteenth have an actual date so people know when it is?
@Tinkrbl44 You must know Juneteenth is the combo of the date of the proclamation June 19, 1865. Regardless this thread is not about Juneteenth.
It deserves it's own thread instead, too

@Linmo I disagree. Her post reads as though disappointed in posters here discussing the royals and not MLK. Even if "confused" there was no need to assume posters here would ignore Juneteenth.
She was certainly capable of starting a thread and I am sure many posters would participate respectfully myself included.
It was off topic and assumed nobody here knows about Juneteenth.
I agree there's much to-do about Charles'birthday but there's history as to the celebration.
Posters can read as they choose but assuming something unfair about posters is not necessary.
I'm done.

Thanks for the info about why the birthday celebration is now rather than his actual birthday. I have also seen brief headlines about it but nothing more. I did see that someone fainted during the rehearsal for trooping the colour. I think William witnessed it all. The heat was oppressive according to the report...I can't imagine wearing those heavy wool uniforms and the big fur hats...no possible way to let your skin breathe in that outfit. I hope the one who was overcome by the heat is okay now. It doesn't always have a good outcome if you are in that kind of heat too long.
So much about H& Minnthe news this morning....will either of them be present for the king's birthday celebration? I think Lilibet turns 2 today.

Wow, comments are all over the place in this thread.
Monarchies are a thing, a real thing throughout many areas of the world and not just Europe. In some of these countries the monarch still has absolutely ruling power, while others it's more ceremonial. They are a part of a country's history, tradition, fabric, and culture. It's up to each country's people how much they want to or not embrace or venerate that aspect of their culture.
I'm of the belief that all life holds value. It's not up to me to understand the meaning of that value of another's life, even ones with negative behavior. Just thinking that one has a meaningless life, well...I just hope I'm not judged the same.
I often wonder if people actually shunned others who have strayed outside of their marriage vows would they be surprised if unknowingly it included a child, a sibling, a parent, their spouse. Would they still be as judgmental then?

Or it could also have been about Michael Jackson who proclaimed himself the KING of Pop.
