I think people want to know all the information they can, so we can all know the best way or anyway to detect it, when to get tests etc. Just like when Katie Couric's husband died, she gave all the information she could and turned it into a campaign to have people tested for colon cancer.

Its a fear and people want to know everything trying to combat and/or prevent it.

I think you can mourn and give condolences and want information at the same time.

I understand where you are coming from, I just disagree that it should be done on a condolences thread.  Some of the posters seemed to be insinuating that had she kept up on annual exams, this wouldn't have happened.  We don't know that to be the case and even if it was, it's not helpful to her now.  As I said, I've not followed this story at all so I'm not sure why people think she wasn't getting regular exams or if it came out she wasn't getting regular exams.  People are diagnosed with Stage 4 cancers all the time.

I just think it should be on a separate thread. But I completely respect the opinions of those who think otherwise.

The lady is dead. May she RIP.  I find her story to be so tragic and heartbreaking.

Nobody knows if she went for follow up exams after her remission from cervical cancer a decade ago.

We do know, from her own words  that she did not see a doctor the entire time during her pregnancy and that she proudly gave birth at home, not in a hospital.  I find that to be completely irresponsible.  to carry a child and not get the proper care for her unborn child is odd.  I can't believe that she and her husband proudly announced this fact to the world.

I personally think her entire journey in her final days of dying and suffering was way overexposed. I would sign into Overstock dot com and other sites and at the top of the  page was a huge banner  directing you  to follow their blog. It was too sensationalized and I'm not sure what the point was. Is he writing a book? Her husband should take this opportunity to encourage women to get tested and see doctors regularly.

@justmyopinion  I agree with this.   Furthermore, I'm the one who originally brought this up on this thread and said that if  she hadn't ever seen a doctor to get a PAP smear .... etc.    Nobody on this thread has decided she could or couldn't have prevented the cancer that claimed her life.   It was an additional thought to mention given all the circumstances and completely relevant to this thread.  I hate the term "board police" but I think it's deifnitely applicable to the direction this thread is now going in.   Your post is right on the mark though.

@Lipstickdiva

I think as well, that it would be nice if another thread was started. If this was an obituary, we wouldn't see discussion re testing/prevention but as this is a forum, I think it all gets mixed in together. Just like we see in Nancy Reagan's thread. I guess its just a natural result of "conversations" in a forum setting. It doesn't bother me but I know if it was someone in my family or I knew personally, I'm sure it would (bother me).

I just wanted to tell you I definitely see how you feel.

@on the bay  But the thing is, it isn't an obituary.  It is a thread on a discussion board.

@Pearlee

Yes, I did say that and I think that is the difference-that in a forum, there is going to be overlying discussion. I was saying pretty much the same as you-this isn't an obituary and that is why we see more types of discussion and maybe thats okay. We know this isn't an obituary and family most likely won't see it or maybe they will on other social media, but that is going to happen when something is so publicized.

I don't usually understand indepth blogs, videos of peoples illnesses but I was totally inspired by Joey's spirit and her feeling about life and her own death.And I would never have gotten to know of it without Rory's blog.

To me, I hope I feel that way when I get my "angel wings" (as one poster put it with her mom) It was something to emulate.She had a beautiful spirit.
