I wish I only got three annoying emails before 9am.

Some days I can get over 100 in a day.  Some are scam, some are obviously from having my email sold or stolen.

I just block the senders and they go straight to my trash folder.  No way am I going to respond by unsubscribing.

But it's irritating.  Much worse than junk snail mail.

@geezerette I also get hundreds of annoying emails a day .  Some are legit but many are scams too.  I ignore.  However those texts on my phone just feel more invasive to me.

@haddon9

Since I've been reporting them as I delete them, my scam texts have decreased dramatically.

@geezerette Haha!  Mine have been increasing!  I also have been reporting, blocking & deleting.

@haddon9.  I regret to say, I've received no such text.  I'm sure they'd consider me too far gone for any job.

I text all the time but have never received a job scam text. I don't have internet on my phone, so maybe that's the reason.

BTW I often prefer texting over phone calls. It's the way to do things now.

My spam emails have also exploded in recent months, mostly product offerings for things I have no interest in.

One of my credit monitoring services notified me that this email address showed up on the dark web.

Hello there, @THEY CallMe Mr Wilkes

You seem to be a savvy person, so if you don't mind too terribly much I have a question for you.

We always hear about the dark web, & not that I want to check anything out, where is it & how do you get there?!

Sounds stupid, but I've no idea.

Scammers are going to Scam.  The bottom feeders are more active at this time of year just because they can.

The primary thing to remember is that these are scammer's phishing texts.

The only thing to do is delete and report.

If you respond to them directly in any form, they now know your phone number is active and they will send more texts, plus sell your number to other scammers because it is 'a working active phone number'.

Do not respond with a N/Y or a 1 or a STOP or anything, that triggers their attention to scam you more.

If you stay consistent with this, they eventuallly drop off and find someone else to scam.  At least that is what I have found.

Good luck.

I don't know what they say because I just scroll on by without looking at it.

I'm not expert, but my understanding is that the "dark web" is that part of the internet devoted primarily to illegal activities.  Most of us can't access it as it requires special beowers, programs and skills.

It's where stolen and hacked data is offered for sale, for example,  like emails and SSNs.  It uses multiple servers around the world making tracking and surveillance difficult.  It's not necessarily illegal to access, but what one does there usually is.

Of course, worse activities happen there also: human and weapons trafficking.  Watch "Law and Order: SVU" and they are frequently trying to locate perps on the dark web.
