Thanks for the early start for January - much appreciated.
Stripes refused to come in again last night and it was COLD here. He just scooted across the front yard and turned on the motion lights but he headed for underneath my car when I went out to get him. Darn cat - he is really getting on my nerves.
Filled all the feeders yesterday so the zillion of doves - have some now that I have never seen so am convinced people are letting them out - and other feathered friends should be quite happy.
My Sis and BIL are almost in Florida so the power came on at their home in time they could leave as scheduled. They will be in Florida for three months - ahhhhhh, what a life.
People were setting off fireworks last night - I hate that as first of all it is illegal to even possess fireworks where I live, much less set them off. We had the driest year on record in California and idiots will tempt fate - those things start fires very quickly where everything is super dry. May add they woke me up and for the first night in a long time I was sleeping good - that did it. Haven't heard fireworks on New Years Eve in quite a few years so this was disappointing.
Happy New Year to one and all!!! I need to start the black eyed peas. Yummy!-

Happy happy New Year to all the Bird Lovers in the Nest!!!
I hope 2014 is a more positive, more prosperous and more peaceful year for ALL of us!!
It's a pretty day here with a blue sky and temps around 50. Colder air is moving in and by tomorrow night, we're supposed to have wind chills in the single digits. That will be a big BRRRRR for us!!
Bird Mama, those penguins are smiling. So cute!
I didn't have to work today and so far, I've been pretty worthless. Maybe I'll take the Christmas decorations off the porch before the colder air gets here so I can at least say I accomplished that.
Winifred, that Stripes sounds like a handful! Some cats just seem to prefer being outside whether it's good for them or not. Hopefully he'll stay safe.
Ohh.... I've spotted a new bird at my feeders. A Hairy Woodpecker. I've always had Downys and Red-Bellieds and I've spotted a Pileated woodpecker in our woods but never a Hairy. It's always exciting to spy a new visitor. I wonder why he's called Hairy? He doesn't look very Hairy. LoL
Ok, back to being worthless (or not!) Again, Happy New Year!!!

Sweatpeace you are not being worthless. What you are doing is called relaxation
. You work hard, it's okay to treat yourself.

Ohhhh.... is that what it's called??
For some strange reason, I always feel like I should be doing something. I need to get over that, don't I? LoL
I did manage to undecorate the outside and tidy up a bit. It's actually a really nice day and I enjoyed watching the birds at my feeders while I was out there. Lots of bird activity. Love it.
January is going to be a killer month for me at work. In addition to my regular everyday work, I'll have year-end work to do for two businesses. The month hasn't even started for me yet but I already feel overwhelmed and behind. Oh well.... wish me luck.
Possummink, a belated Happy Birthday to YOU and I hope you are feeling much better!!

Hi Birding Friends, Happy first day of 2014. Going to take me a while to get used to writing that on my checks etc. We are supposed to be getting some snow tonight and just in time for me to enjoy it before winging my way South to FL. My e-ticket was in my email this morning when I got up. I thought I'd have more time here at home to enjoy some more Winter weather like more snow and colder temps. due here next week, 10 is the high on Mon, with a -4 at night and then a high of 12 on Tuesday with a low of 2 at night.
I just finished with cooking supper. Ham, black eyed peas, cabbage, sweet potatoes (oven fried), rutabagas, fresh fruit for dessert, if there's any room left. I had to cook some of the veggies, rutabagas as only my brother and I like them and since I am leaving Sat., they are on the menu today too.
The birds have been cleaning the feeders all day long as I am assuming they sense the coming snow or weather change. I hope my brother keeps them well fed while I am gone. I'll sure miss all "my" feathered pals.
Guess I'll sign off for now. Enjoy the rest of your afternoon, evening, Everyone. Take good care and be safe.
