Re: January Bird's Nest - Ringing in the New Year

Brrr, it is currently -1 in my neck of the woods (doesn't factor in the wind chill) {#emotions_dlg.huh}. I started my morning off on a sad note. I looked out my kitchen window (faces the back yard) and saw a sparrow pecking around on the patio. I said to myself, time to get some seed and as I was getting ready to turn around and fetch some seed I saw another bird on the ground cuddled into a corner near the garage. I knew it was not good {#emotions_dlg.crying}. She flipped as I jerked my family room door open and in the short time it took for me to run across the patio, she was gone. I guess such is the life of a bird lover. We pay close attention and see all aspects of the circle of life play out in front of us.

Bird of the Day - Madagascar Hoopoe (looks so much like the Eurasian Hoopoe that I posted in previous months that I actually had to check my bird of the day spreadsheet to make sure I wasn't repeating myself)

Re: January Bird's Nest - Ringing in the New Year

So sad about your little feathered friend Bird mama - you are right - we do pay attention to the critters around us don't we? Thank goodness for that!

I got Stripes in mid morning yesterday and did NOT let him out again until this morning. And to top it off he slept almost the entire time he was in the house but he is sure jumpy. I let him out this morning. I rarely keep him in like that as he is independent and I understand that but I just do not like not seeing him for a day or two - that really bothers me. Anyway, he seemed very content to be inside and that was good. He is back outside now so we shall see what happens today. If he is hanging around will try and bring him in again later on - we shall see.

Gizmo is visiting this weekend along with Tessa and Davey. That little kitten is so adorable and Tessa is treating her very well. I am delighted to see that as actually Stripes and Miss Blackie are her cats also but she has NEVER taken care of them any way, shape or form. Hopefully Tessa is maturing a bit. Gizmo is a very happy kitty - she gets into everything, pulls stuff down and loves treats - now what could be better than that?

Hope everyone has a great day - Bird mama, you do find some great pictures. Hate to mention this but it is suppose to be about 75 again today out in So Cal.

Ahh Winifred - I don't mind hearing about the warm weather. I like living in Michigan, even when they forecast another 8-10 inches of snow by Sunday night {#emotions_dlg.bored}.

Re: January Bird's Nest - Ringing in the New Year

Is it Spring yet??? {#emotions_dlg.blink}

Good evening, everyone. I hope all the Birders are staying warm (Winifred, you may be the only one!).

Our weather is going to be very interesting starting tomorrow and going through the first part of the work week. It's supposed to start raining tomorrow and then the temp is going to drop, changing the rain to snow and then an Arctic blast is coming through which will drop the temp to ZERO with wind chills to -5. This sounds like Bird Mama's or Possummink's kind of weather. {#emotions_dlg.scared} I've got two outside cats that I'm going to have to bring into our garage so they don't freeze to death. One is still semi-feral and freaks out whenever she is confined (and she considers the inside of a house as confinement) and the other one is mean as a snake and does NOT get along well with her or any other cat. This ought to be very interesting indeed.

Bird Mama, I'm so sorry about that little bird. I know that must have broken your heart. {#emotions_dlg.sad}

Winifred, I'm glad to hear that Tessa is being a better kitty mama. That's great! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup} Now if you can just get that Stripes to behave himself. Haha!

Take care everyone and all those in the path of this winter storm..... stay safe and stay warm!!

Gorgeous birds, Puddles! they look like pigeons/doves, but a different color. What are they?
