Wasn't a huge fan of his films (not into slapstick much) but his telethons were a huge part of my growing up.  Back in the olden days lol before cable you could not get up at 3am and see TV.  Channels were usually signed off.  And any channel with programming certainly was not live. My Mom would let me stay up to watch and sometimes I would get up in the middle of the night to peek in.   His Telethons in the 70s and 80s had good acts and it was fun to see the tote board inch up.  It was sad to see them decline over the years and now they no longer do them.  I guess with 24 hour channels their day ended and the novelty wore off.  Thanks for the memories Jerry.  The piece on him on CNN was very long and goes to show a life well lived.  He lived through various illnesses and achieved so much in entertainment and philanthropy.

I wonder if TCM will run a marathon of his movies.

He battled many illnesses but yet he was able to live until 91.  Rest in peace.
