Re: Is this odd?

[ Edited ]

@occasionalrain

HUH?????  When did I suggest "going to this man's house in quest of an explanation"?

My only two suggestions to the OP were to:

Pop her head out of the front door and say hello, just to let him know she is  just as awake and alert as he is.....like I would do at that very same 4 a.m. hour just to get my morning newspaper off of the front walk, or let a dog out, or check the weather.  I am up at 4 a.m. many days and go to bed early at night.  He shouldn't think I'm acting strangely.

Second suggestion..........Keep an eye on him.

OP said this neighbor  wasn't particularly receptive to previous greetings and seems to disappear when her DH goes out to work.  Quiet, shy and reclusive people deserve to be left alone, but I would watch this one anyway, as long as he's watching me.

I think it depends on where you live.  In my neighborhood if anyone sat outside, on the pavement, in the wee hours of the morning, it would be very odd and troubling behavior. No one even sits outside during the day.

I would certainly be talking to the police about it. Where I live police want to know about anything residents consider abnormal. They encourage it.

Maybe this is why no one talks to their neighbors anymore.

If anyone does anything that someone else wouldn't do they are declared odd, weird, disturbed, possibly dangereous, in need of police intervention or a spotlight thrown on them.

This guy is just sitting quietly in front of his house. Maybe this is the only time of day he gets to himself. I go out and run at 6am and I enjoy it because it's about the only time I'm guarenteed peace and quiet.

He is likely perfectly comfortable sitting on the ground. Many people actually are. I know some people that will sit crosslegged on the floor instead of a chair or couch. I'd sit on the walkway too. Grass stains on clothes are a pain.

There's a guy in my apartment complex that will sit on a bench for hours and hours doing nothing. He talks to people if they come along but otherwise nothing. No book or music. Odd to me because my attention and fidgety nature couldn't do that but good for him that he can just sit and relax like that.

He is meditating or praying.

However, I agree with others, take a cake or pie over and introduce yourself. Within the conversation, lightly mention you and your husband notice you have something in common, enjoying the peaceful time of early morning.

Myself and many of my friends  love to go outdoors in the early morning hours and pray or read a devotional. It is peaceful and a beautiful way to begin the day.

Yes, I agree that it would be creepy if someone was watching me, and yes, I would keep an eye out if that were the case.

But it doesn't seem that this man is watching the OP.  He's simply sitting in front of his own house.  He has to face one direction or another, and apparently he's facing forward.  That doesn't mean he's taking an unusual interest in her or in her house.

So yes, I agree.  I would watch someone too if he was watching me.  But that doesn't seem to be the case here at all.  He's sitting in front of his own house enjoying the early morning quiet.  I don't find that odd or a reason to suspect him of being up to no good.

What is "odd" to some is not odd for others.

Just last week two bothers were on a college tour and were stopped by campus police because they were too quiet among the group in the tour. A mother in the same group called 911 because she thought the brothers were acting strangely because they didn't interact in the manner that she thought they should. After they were detained and questioned , they were let go. I wonder how the woman feels now after assuming???????

Well since we all don't live where you live, we should stop using a broad brush to explain people's behavior.  Where I live, if it's your house, you can sit on the lawn, the curb or in the bird bath as long as you're doing no harm.  It's not abnormal unless you're running around naked with a feather up your nose or something comparable.

I am not up that time of the day, but I am very lucky to have nice neighbors that keep their lawns nice and don't bother anyone. We have small kids & some teens but hardly see them maybe they are busy with their activities plus Az. is hot no one wants to sit out in this heat

She sounds like a NOSEY Mrs. Kravitz.

For those who didnt see my earlier reply, I thanked everyone for answering, and said I saw him the first time (after they lived here for 6 months!) because every night and mornng I look out my window BRIEFLY (to look at the weather and or the moon), before going to bed and after getting up in the morning. Thats how I saw him because i have looked out 2X a day for 11 years and all I have ever seen are bunnys hopping in the street in the Summer, and the weather and the moon, until now, so he startled me.

So I look out my window 2X in 24 hours and Im being crucified. lol. And I have a bad back so I can barely walk most days, let alone stand at a wndow for long periods of time! I wonder how many here look out their window 10X a day if you dont work like me? .

I wish I had looked out when our neighbors car had the wheels taken off of it and set on cinder blocks (and this is a country neighborhood with upscale homes). I actually heard car doors that night and never looked out. Crime can happen anywhere but I was not insinuating this guy is a criminal.

Well anyway I should have known not to bother to post this because things get blown out of proportion on the internet. But i never thought looking out a window PM and AM Is a crime. lol..

Ok thanks again, have a wonderful day/night!
