The ignore button isn't all that effective. You still see responses to the poster on Ignore and can pretty much either figure out what the poster said or get curious enough to take the poster off Ignore to look and see. Also, if I remember right, you see what the poster wrote if someone quotes him or her.

FYI @SharkE

Are you saying you've already tried ignore over there, @Pearlee?  I agree that it was pretty much useless here.

@manny2, It sounds like you haven't spent much time on other forums. You might at least try it and see if you like it. If you don't, you have full control in you profile to cancel your account and leave.

Ultimately, It just depends on whether you want to continue your relationships that you have made here or not.

Moderation is a concern for me at the new board. Posters do not make for good moderators. It's a imbalance of power. Moderators are usually neutral for a reason.

Do you think the mods were always fair and neutral on QVC?  I think not.

Humans are not robots.  We all have flaws and when using judgement, not everyone will agree.

We can only do our best and be as fair as we can, as best we can.

Inbalance of power?  I hardly think this is a power position.  Not from where I sit anyway.  It's a difficult job.  I hope I never have to monitor my friends, nor those who for some reason have rubbed me raw over the years here, but I know that I will.

I am not looking forward to that.

Yes, @Carmie it is a power position. While I didn't agree with some of the moderators decisions on this board they have established rules. They don't post here either. I don't think posters should moderate.

@manny2   While I do understand your concerns, not letting mods post on the new board will penalize those of us who volunteered to help.

I offered to help because this board is shutting down and mellyg took the initiative to put another board together so we could continue the friendships that have gone on for years.

She obviously could not do it alone so I offered to do what I could.  The rules will clealy state what is and is not acceptable.  If someone disagrees with a mod in a civil way that is no cause for any action.  Civil, respectful and kind are key.

Since the board is so new, I am sure it will be tweaked as we move forward but everyone is doing the best that they can for now.

@Carmie   You will do just fine.

(I thought you had all those blue stars because you posted so much.  LOL)

I was wondering how many posts it takes to earn stars.  ROTFLOL.

As far as mods here, there have been some posts by a few-I will not name names but once in a bit a mod would chime in a thread.

I've also seen hearts given by mods.

It's not a big deal, imo.

There has always been a thought that some mods were seasoned posters.  I do recall an email some received but since I cannot remember what the Q said, I'll leave it at that.  It just opened up some thoughts that some posters ended up as mods.

Where is everyone going?  WHere will the new book thread be located?

It is true that the ignore button will still let you see posts that are quoted.

I am not sure (since I have not looked) but I believe there is a blocked feature which should work better if you truly want to ignore a poster.

In all my years here I only put one person on ignore and then removed it.

I figured I know how the person rolls and it just was not that important to try to ignore her.

@tansy  No not on mellg's forum.   But on other boards I have been on (and I was shocked when I signed up today that I was already registered on proboards! Had to be from long ago (different nic which I changed to Pearley today) so it could have been mellg's board too. I don't remember it but from my old nic there I did post there for a brief time.

I wasn't on the QVC board when it had an Ignore function. I participated here later (I signed up much earlier than I started posting here)

Wow, that's really a nasty thing to do by a retailer who wants to retain customer loyalty. I don't care what the reason, unless it was illegal or profane, I can't imagine why ban customers!! So what they want you to go to FB and not another site...still. Consumers have choices...they're going to make those choices, you can't coerce them into staying loyal. How about you give them good reason to retain loyalty.

I'm on FB and use it very selectively and rarely. QVC public forums will not be one of the ways I use FB. I occasionally have commented on other public FB pages, but I don't like that my friends can see where I post...my personal interests and such. And more and more FB is not a user friendly place anyway.

This is exactly what I dislike about Facebook. If I were to make a comment on their public page about a shipping issue or question on a product, boom, all the people on my friend list are privy to it. Not happening!

On proboards, you can ban people by their IP address.

@BoopOMatic  At the same time, two people living at the same address will have the same IP address. How would they know it's the same person?

That's where moderating comes in.

And if somebody is so determined to troll they go to the library, (!), 🤣 then have at it. Again, moderating takes care of that.
