Re: Is anyone "not" into Thanksgiving?

Even with heartache in some years, hardships in others...I still find joy in life and all it’s blessings.

And for that reason I celebrate.

I"m not into Thanksgiving either.  My mother died 3.5 years ago, and though I wasn't super close to her, she always made it nice.  Now, many of my siblings live out of town, and we have no children.  I'll probably go to one of my sisters for dinner.  It's just another day.  Yes, can't wait till Friday, LOL.

I think it's very important to some of my friends with children.

Hi @winamac1!  I don't mind Thanksgiving so much.  My husband's brother always hosts and his wife always makes it fun.  We aren't just family, we are friends.

That being said, I recently told one of my best friends I wish I could wake up on January 1st!  I have decided to host an "Orphans Party" this year for those of us who have lost our parents (all of us at a relatively early age) and don't have children.

I hope you can find some joy in getting together with family and reflect on your many blessings to give thanks! ❤❤❤

@magicmoodzHi magic.  Happy Thanksgiving a day early.  I don't dislike Thanksgiving, but I just don't love it, lol.  I am happy for the time off.  I have to leave for a week of training on Sunday so am not looking forward to 12 to 14 hour days.  But, I"m off for 3 days so that will be nice.  The Orphan's Party sounds fantastic.  I love that idea!!  I forgot that you don't have any children either.  My father is almost 89 (in April) so he's getting up there in age.  My mother, as you know, died about 3.5 years ago.  It certainly is different.  I have as of next week, only 2 siblings in town.  My brother is moving to Dallas and my other sister is 2 hours away.  Life sure changes as we get older, lol.  Anyway, great to hear from you!  Have a wonderful holiday!  Smiley Happy. Hugs

@winamac1

How blessed you are to have your dad--I hope he is in good health. If we were lucky enough to have moms who made the holidays special, it is only natural to long for days of past. That doesn't make us Debbie Downers!😉

I understand how siblings relocate and we can't all be together as we once were. That's another reason why I hold my orphan friends close, especially during the holidays.

I hope your upcoming training is located in a warm and wonderful part of the country with good shopping!  Until then, have a happy holiday! ❤❤❤

Re: Is anyone "not" into Thanksgiving?

The older I get the more I realize that Thanksgiving has become my favorite holiday.

The best part?

He's in fairly good health Magic.  Thank you for asking.  He's smart as a tack too, lol.  He's a bit overweight, but at least he likes to eat at that age!

The training is in Phoenix!!  Long days, but I can look out the window at the sun, lol! Smiley Happy

Re: Is anyone "not" into Thanksgiving?

Honestly, I don't know how a person can not like Thanksgiving.  But, whatever.  If your non-celebration of Thanksgiving works for you, that's all that matters.  Why do you think that Thanksgiving requires that people over eat ????   That's just sitcom stuff.  That's not real life.  It's sad that you never made more of an effort for your kids and now for your grandkids.

Re: Is anyone "not" into Thanksgiving?

It's weird that so many people seem to think that Thanksgiving is JUST about food.  Is it possible that people really do not know that is a national holiday, it  celebrates our history.  The food is incidental.  Saying that Thanksgiving is just about turkey and football is like saying that Christmas is only about Christmas trees and candy and presents.  Although, I suppose there are people who believe that.

at the risk of bringing up a sore subject again that has been discussed numerous times, not EVERYONE wants to celebrate that period of history.......for a number of reasons.

Re: Is anyone "not" into Thanksgiving?

[ Edited ]

I wouldn't say I'm "into"it (I am not a "Holiday" fan in particular), but I like sharing a meal with people I care about, and that's what Thanksgiving has been for me for many years

And it will most definitely center around the food, it always does.  No football, though, no one in this group seems to care about that.

P.S.  If Thanksgiving isn't largely about the food, why do people spend so much time and energy on the food, and why do so many call it "Turkey Day"?

I am "into" this day of giving thanks, but with many of my family members no longer with us, it makes me appreciate these times even more. Very thankful for each day I am still with my wife and furry family and also my life in general.

Some rough roads along the way, but very few escape those things if they live long enough. Hard to forget those days, but my interests are more on the present and the next day.

Blessings to you and your dear wife Cindy, John, and to your beloved fur family, too.

Like the two of you, my husband and I have had to deal with many multiple health issues and we are down to one beloved feline from two over the years.

She is facing aging issues, and we recently found out that she can no longer hear. We think that she is totally deaf now, and she compensates by looking at our faces and taking cues from our body language and hand gestures. Otherwise you wouldn't even know it.

"One day at a time," is my motto.

Wishing you and Cindy and the furry ones a blessed Thanksgiving and holiday season with all good things to come, from our home to yours. XOXO Heart
