Re: Is anyone else beat from holiday preperations?

I did Thanksgiving for my whole family, 15 for dinner, 5 overnighters. Had a dinner party for 6 several weeks ago, will do Christmas Eve for some family, then will travel 6 hours for our 4th holiday celebration.

Always seems like a good idea as holiday season comes around. By the time they actually arrive, I'm tired crabby, and wishing it was all over. Why do we do this in order to make memories for the people we love and then our own memories are of all the prep work?

My mom made a BIG DEAL out of holidays and I do also, but now I wonder if any of my married sons will carry on when I no longer can. I doubt it Maybe today's young families will be able to put holidays in better porportion than Boomers were able to

DH has downsized his holiday must-do's. The tree is pre-lit and we no longer have lights outside on the bushes, roof, trees, etc. Fine for him, but the house still gets full-on decor, and family still wants to be fed, not to mention they want gifts. He doesn't do that anymore either! At least if I'm doing the shopping (or ordering) I can get stuff for me too and he never questions all the boxes and bags coming into the house!!

I don't know how women that have 40 hour jobs outside of the home get it all done unless they don't sleep!

There's no way I could do it if I had a full time job.

God bless them.

You just do it Celtic.

Fate whispers to her, "You cannot withstand the storm." She whispers back, "I am the storm."

Re: Is anyone else beat from holiday preperations?

Not this year. I decided to simplify! No more having to rest my back for 3 days afterward. I will make some pumpkin bars this morning. Put the ham on around 11:00 (eating at 5:00 pm). Punch is made and in freezer. All I have to do is add soda pop to it. Instead of green bean casserole this year. I am just making a pot of green beans. My DD and DIL are bringing the rest....potato casserole, more dessert, etc. I am feeling much more relaxed because of it. After all is said and done, we always have such a good time and am glad I can still do it. When you really stop to think about it....... they are both going to have 2 or 3 other Christmas meals.....who really needs so much food!!!!

Gotta get busy now. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone!

Re: Is anyone else beat from holiday preperations?

I am exhausted. I don't feel well anyway and have been hurting all over. Plus, meds are not agreeing with me. I finally gave in and bought a lot of prepared items and it will have to do. There aren't other females who can cook right now. Never mind asking the males! Honestly, I would just like to snooze all day. And to top it all off, I have to entertain again on the 26th!

I understand. I've been there, and this year, I have some of that going on, too.

Our next few days will be low-key, then we'll have family get-togethers over the weekend.

Re: Is anyone else beat from holiday preperations?

This year, I decided to go easy on myself. I usually run myself ragged making the perfect Christmas but I decided to scale back this year. I did not have a big Christmas Eve dinner; I ordered a ton of chinese food and served it buffet style at 6pm, just family and a couple of friends. We went to the 9pm church service, not the midnight one. Christmas dinner will a roast chicken dinner and I assigned dishes to others. My daughter will bring desserts, my other daughter is making lasagna, my bff is bringing wine and an appetizer. Usually I do everthing myself. This year, with my pain problems, I needed just a little break. We are still having a great Christmas but it feels nice sitting on my couch, sipping egg nog, looking at my lovely tree We will open gifts in the morning, hubby will make his traditional Christmas breakfast.
