@Laura14  My friends from Jensen Beach drove back here to Mentor, OH, and arrived "home" last night.  They are staying in the condo next door to me that they had not yet sold after moving to FL a couple years ago.  Their FL house is right on the beach.  I haven't had a chance to talk with them yet because they were sleeping when I left for work this morning.  They have two cats they had to drag along.  Ironically, they were just here a month ago gathering up more personal belongings to take back to FL.  He has a bad back, so the long drive is really hard, but his wife is the "rock."

@2blonde  Smart!  My mother and her husband have chosen to remain in the Villages which is north of Orlando.  I really hope she gets a big scare so she never does this to herself or her kids again!

Or, they'll say, "I rode out Irma and was fine, I can ride out this other hurricane, too."

The Villages homes are built to post Andrew codes that were updated in 2000.  They should be safe.  Prayers that they are.

@Zhills  Thanks!  They actually just built this house so it's brand new.  That does give me some comfort but tornadoes kind of outdo our building codes every time.  I'm sure she'll be fine.  Just shaken up, literally.

Catergory 4 and Category 5 are both considered catastrophic.  It would be nice to hear the catergory lowered below those two but it doesn't seem to be happening.

So sorry for all Floridians; and keeping SC, NC, GA and everyong in thought.

I can't imagine how hard this is for the evacuees.Woman SadHeart

It's hard to believe that some people are refusing to evacuate. smh

Just heard on the news that some are going to ride the storm out while inside their boats? They say they have a better chance of making it out without harm....really??!!

I know that there are those who can't evacuate, but to be able to evacuate, and to willing choose not to, that's what causes me to shake my head.

Where are all of the people being evacuated to?  There are lots of people who do not have the money, transportation etc to leave their home for extended periods of time.

It may be too late to leave the state, but at least go to a storm shelter.

Homes and property can be replaced.

Human beings can't.

@CrazyDaisy  Some are housebound.  Our cashier at the market yesterday has a sister in FL and the husband is wheelchair bound.

Those who can leave but choose to stay know the risks.   I hope they will survive but their lives are in their own hands.

I feel for the ones who cannot get out as quickly or as easily.

It must be so frightening, especially knowing that this storm is historic.

If I did not have enough money to evacuate and was ordered to do so, I would think there would be some kind of assistance to provide transportation and shelter.
