That's why I take my shopping dollars elsewhere ... I cannot imagine spending hours on end watching presentations of products, vendors, and salespeople ... who does that?
I don't know that they are necessarily talking about people sitting and watching hours upon hours of presentations, etc.
I took it to mean when people do watch, they want to be entertained. That's how I am. I don't watch all that much but when I do watch, I have to like the person presenting or I'll just tune out.
Judging by all the threads about the hosts and what they wear, how they act, how they speak, etc., I think a lot of people feel the same way.
It is because of the hosts I do not watch. I won't mention any names, because the reply will just get poofered, but the latest batch of hosts, I just cannot watch. I say the latest batch because I feel certain they were trained by the same person, because they all have the same sales pitch, use the same crazy mixed up wordisms, and prance all over the stage.
These presentations take away from the products being presented, and you never get a full explanation of why that thing is so "crazy good!"

Interesting but nothing I didn't already know. I would say that very few 30somethings watch or buy from QVC. I think the 40 and above demographic is their target customer. When it comes to retailers in general, QVC is one of the big Kahunas. They left all the other shopping channels in the dust years ago. I've been shopping with QVC almost from the very beginning; from way back in my sahm days. I probably buy 70% of everything I own from them, 20% from Amazon. I do not "do" malls anymore and I haven't for quite some time now. Why would? When I can everything my little heart desires delivered right to my front door in pristine condition? I do find that as I have become more comfortable with technology; I love my tablet and I am beginning to at least like my smart phone; I don't watch much of QVC on tv. There is no need for me sit in front of a tv when I can go on line and access their entire inventory and buy what I want with just a few clicks on my tablet.

I enjoy interactive TV--not just watching but maybe pouncing on a promising purchase. The problem is that I work from home a lot of the time, and don't watch much TV anymore. So I rely on the internet.
Just to say that for me the entertainment that appeals is the shopping; it has nothing to do with watching TV per se. I've been watching at the gym lately, though, and find that the long presentations only bother me when it is stuff I have no interest in--such as 99% of electronics and 90+% of the clothes. (From experience, I know they are too variable in fit and quality.)

Thanks for sharing. In my case I buy online from QVC. I only tune in to get explanations, mostly for electronics. I don't want to be entertained and I am not into chit chat. I also find if I tune in I am very easily sold. They are good at it and I am not wanting to spend ALL THAT MUCH on a whim.

The heart of the matter is to get us to ENTERTAIN the idea to buy something by any (legal) means possible!

But they do over hype products!
Now I know why it feels at times watching as if I was watching the Red Skelton show when I was little, with the permission to play, the stepping on jewelry, the goofy eyes and dancing etc etc. It is all in the name of entertaining me. It doesn't.
I buy things because I see something beneficial in it. Not because of the entertaining way it is presented.

I find it interesting that the person singled out how many Halo chargers were sold in a day on QVC.
Ever read the reviews here and elsewhere on the Halo chargers?
The reviews aren't very good.

When I looked at it I have to wonder did qvc pay to put that on yahoo as an advertisement. Because all it is a qvc promo video on yahoo.

Alex Miller could not be more wrong (at least where it concerns me) when he says "And so, I encourage our team to stay focused on where we have our strength which is in creating entertainment and social interactions around the shopping experience.” As a matter of fact, Mr. Miller, that "entertainment" is the primary reason why I stopped watching and spending. I surely don't mind a personal reference to one's family now and again but I absolutely do not want to hear about the hosts families ad nauseum as one host in particular is inclined to speak. I also don't want to see hosts behaving like children in front of a vendor, laughing like a 2 year old and creating comedy routines with him. Just show me the product, give me the colors and sizes and let's call it a day.
Are you reading Alex Miller?

It is obvious that they are not targeting the under 30 crowd, just by looking at the clothes they present.
