Why would anyone try to open it while it was still under pressure?
And there is already a warning to keep your face and fingers away from the vent when releasing it.

Kitty:
As an afterthought, and not referring to any one particular incident:
Some people just don't read the instructions booklets.
(I've observed over and over again.)

Big pockets drive a lot of unfounded claims.
It’s impossible to open that lid while under pressure.
Did you miss the part about the Fire Fighter and the independent testing. Wow, can you show a little compassion here for the little girl

Who knows? But this is irrelevant to the discussion of the accident because the report says they released the pressure before opening.

I have no fear in using my Instant Pot. I have had it for 3 years. I use a wooden spoon handle to release pressure rather than getting close to the steam release valve. Or I allow the pressure to release over time while closed. In my experience, you CANNOT open the Instant Pot while under pressure. I am sorry the little girl had a painful accident. I don't trust everything the Daily Mail reports.

If you "don't trust everything Daily Mail reports", try using Google, it's reported on MANY TV stations and other reputable sites.
I never rely on just one site's information, regardless of who it is, I verify the story via many other sites.
I used the Daily Mail's site because it showed a video of the independent testing by a Fire Dept.

In the OP's opening post it is stated (in bold) that investigation have shown that some IP's could be opened while under pressure.
So, no, my question was not irrelevant to the discussion.
Additionally, reports are not always entitrely accurate.

This is what I'm trying to understand.

So thankful that I don’t cook. Pressure cookers, of any kind, scare me.
