have lots of pillows on the bed. I hate doing that, but I don't want it to come back.

Pillows??? Can you enlighten me please? Do you need to elevate your head? Thanks.

I know the question is not meant for me but I know when crystals are involved, sleeping elevated helps keep the crystals in place. Etc

I am scared that if I lie flat, the vertigo will come back. Having the head raised helped lesson the dizziness. It's been a couple months, but since there is no telling if it will come back I am still extra cautious. I'm hoping the need to do this will pass.

Re: Input on your experiences with vertigo.

Just a quick update and another thanks for all your input. My Primary Care visit was today, and pretty much a waste of time. He mostly just spoke to me about the symptoms and agreed to what I've concluded from my research and you all's help is that it is probably the crystals in the ear thing. He extended my prescription for the Meclizine. He said he has seen it take 12 weeks or more to clear itself. That stinks!

I came straight home and called some ENT's. Those here locally have a 6 week wait, how crazy is that? So I called a smaller town about an hour or so away and they can see me a week from Monday (much better). My PC said the Epley Maneuver doesn't work most of the time, but I'm thinking of trying it myself, what do I have to loose? I'm also considering my chiropractor, as I'm a life long believer in chiropractic medicine, and he has kept me walking at times I would not have been able to. I noticed in my research that some chiropractors use the Epley as well.

Sometimes I feel pretty normal, other times I have many hours of just "off kilter" and slight dizziness. I have to be careful how I move and step as I don't want to fall. No more horrible times like the night I went to the ER. I haven't laid down to sleep yet, and don't intend to for now. I'm grateful to be functioning and feeling as well as I do, but frustrated to not be up to the level of energy I'm used to. I've been taking the Meclizine every 8 hours all week, and I'm so not into taking medication, so today, I have started stretching it to every 12 hours. I'll see how that goes for a couple of days, and try to wean off even farther. I don't like taking meds as I think we can get too dependent on them, they can loose their effectiveness, and then where do we go. I like to try to work through pain or discomfort that is going to be long term or manageable, and save the drugs for when I can't cope with it.

I'll keep you all posted as conditions warrant it. Many thanks again for all your support and input.

Re: Input on your experiences with vertigo.

I am currently living with vertigo and I certainly have empathy for you.

I don't know about others here who suffer from this, but my experience is, once you get it, it tends to hang around for awhile and you tend to have re-occurrences.

I woke p a few days ago and was instantly sick. I was fine when I went to bed but upon rising, it hit. If I could sit perfectly still and not move at all, I'd be fine!

However, bending the head down or up or side to side is -- killer!

I have a med for it, but it doesn't take it all away. I get so nauseous and then have to keep running to the bathroom, if you get my drift.

The medicine I take is Meclazine (sp). I believe it is the generic of Antivert.

When I first got it, it was like I was on some type of demented merry-go-round. I could hardly stand up - I was grabbing for walls. I thought I was having a stroke or dying!

I had DH take me to ER, where they did the usual battery of tests and decided it was vertigo. Sent me home after administering a shot and some pills.

That was probably at least 16 years ago and I still have bouts of it, and to this day, I cannot lay on my left side or things starting spinning around and around.

The say to really cut down on salt and keep well hydrated. I don't really know if this helps or not but it's certainly worth a shot! Best wishes -- I know how you feel!
