Re: Input on your experiences with vertigo.

Years ago I had something similar. It was diagnosed as labrynthitis, a viral infection of the inner ear. Aside for medication for the nausea, it pretty much just had to run its course. I missed almost 2 weeks of work.

Re: Input on your experiences with vertigo.

Just finishing up from yesterday....

Just wanted to add when you have BBPV and the rooms spins Etc that involves the crystals in the ear being out of place, here the maneuvers definitely do help.,...sometimes you Dr will send you to a physical therapist. Also when symptoms of spinning and that wooziness lasts, your Dr can prescribe a steroid which will help too. So you know, Meclizine which is also sold over the counter is Bonine..also helps with nausea.

If you do have either BBPV or Meniere's, learn your triggers and what not to do. (Still gotta live life though)

Good-luck and feel better!

mominohio: Yes, best to have some information, ideas, suggestions, and experiences handy before the doc's visit. Let him/her do the talking first. Then, ask the questions, mention whatever you want.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

Re: Input on your experiences with vertigo.

Lots of things can cause vertigo. You need to get tests which I am sure your Dr will do. My vertigo was years ago late 90s early 2000's. In 2001 they found out my C spine was bad. I had a double discectomy. I still get vertigo at times but not much since my surgery. I always have Meclizine on hand, that's the only thing that helps it. But I did not have the other symptoms you describe, JUST the vertigo. So it was my neck. I don't know what yours is. Best of luck to you. I hope you feel better soon.

Re: Input on your experiences with vertigo.

I went through problems of this sort with my mother when she was still here. I have no answers or even ideas for you in this area. Her problems in this were never answered or resolved.

Good luck.

Pillows??? Can you enlighten me please? Do you need to elevate your head? Thanks.

I know the question is not meant for me but I know when crystals are involved, sleeping elevated helps keep the crystals in place. Etc

Re: Input on your experiences with vertigo.

Thanks Jerz, in all the time I was helping mom and seeing doctors, no one ever mentioned crystals. I wasn't coming into the boards when all that was going on. Too bad, maybe I'd have learned something here that could have helped her. But thank you.

Re: Input on your experiences with vertigo.

Let me add about sleeping on pillows...

Sleeping on at least a 45 degree angle helps with usually any cause of your vertigo. (Not saying it will never happen, it can still happen and even happen sleeping straight up but it helps drastically)

With fluids in the inner ear, sleeping on the angel helps stabilize the fluid...laying flat or rolling over from one side to the other side can cause the room to spin, sleeping on extra pillows helps stabilize that fluid. Kinda the same theory of the middle of a big ship.

Also when the crystals dislodge and get into the inner ear (tubes where the fluid is) we feel it, the room will start to spin or we feel lightheaded or woozy...the rocks slow down the fluid in the inner ear, the fluid is what tells us what is up, down Etc and helps keep our balance.

Any time. I'm sorry about your mom. Doctors can be frustrating, the worse is getting no answers.
