Input Please - Brief Company Expected

[ Edited ]

I'm the meet up point for people going in different directions next week, some of whom I've never met (friend of relative, relative of friend). I'd like something to offer to eat that's not fussy, sticky, crumby or waits to be cooked since they'll want to get on their way once everyone arrives. I also wonder about having something for them to do that isn't time-constrained. Any ideas welcome! tia

Wednesday am:

eat - bananas, yogurt, herbal tea

do - jigsaw puzzle?, quick tour of area?

Sunday evening:

eat - granola bars?, crackers?, herbal tea

do - jigsaw puzzle?, quick tour of area?

How about having something easy in a crockpot such as Meatballs, Rice or Pasta dish.  This would give someone a quick snack along with giving yourself something to eat.

Have Board and Card games available.  Also some magazines or books.

Provide a list of suggested activities in the area - Holiday markets, light displays etc which they may want to see.

Jigsaw puzzle sounds great!  So does the food--fruit, yogurt, granola bars, and tea.  If it was me, I'd add cheese for the crackers as a choice.  How nice of you to be the "way station".  Woman Happy

Remember some of those peeps will be on special diets. Your selections have a lot of sugar. I like the idea of cheese, not so much yogurt. With so many on specials diets it is hard to know.

I like the CrockPot idea.  I would make chili and have crackers and cheese or rolls and butter.  If people have special needs, I still wouldn't offer a huge menu of choices.  People seem to make do when they have nutritional needs.

I too would go with a crockpot meal.  I would do  sauce and meatballs and have fresh rolls and parmesian cheese on the side.  As far as passing the time, the puzzle is a good idea.  Also some books, even perhaps maps of the area with points of interest.

@ThinkingOutLoud   That sounds like a very light snack almost like what you would serve children for snack time. If you are not offering a meal I would go with something a little more substantial. They may come in hungry. How about sliced bagels and cream cheese and fruit in the morning and chili and crackers at night. Especially if they are going to be with you long enough to do a puzzle or take a tour of your area.

@ThinkingOutLoud

A.M. Bananas, oranges, berries, apples (could take with them), purchased small muffins, boiled eggs, maybe some sliced ham and croissants (purhased bread of some sort), non-hebal tea and coffee or individual small juices.

Sunday p.m. Bought cookies (packs of Belvita maybe), crackers and cheese, grapes, tea and coffee, bottled water or mineral water.  I love those 8 oz. bottled waters.

I wouldn't put out a jigsaw puzzle, it would be messy and seems like sort of a quite time and people will want to relax and visit.

@ThinkingOutLoud I like your original idea of snack type foods. A meal would be difficult with people arriving at different times. some posters added muffins or bagels for morning. That is a fairly simple option. The addition of apples alongside the bananas seem easy enough.

As for the PM just keep it snacks. I would choose things you enjoy so if there are extras you will eat them. Cookies, crackers, fruits and cheese should keep them satisfied.
