In case you didn't know this

water bottle companies are making their caps smaller and harder to open. If you squeeze the bottle close to the cap a few times the cap will come off easily and you won't have to struggle to get it off.

I recycle my plastic bottles. But you're right, the ocean has become a dump.{#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}

Which has caused problems with the search for the lost Malaysian plane. Some of the debris found turned out to be garbage{#emotions_dlg.sad}

Exactly! We stopped years ago and won't ever buy them again.

Many of the bottled waters aren't any better, and sometimes worse, than your own home water supply. Waste of money.

Use a home water filtering system if you'd feel better about it. There are many out there, from simple/cheap to bigger & more expensive.

That's a good start! However, unfortunately for every 6 water bottles used, only 1 makes it to the recycle center and end up in ocean, land fill etc. It takes many hundreds of years for plastic to disintegrate.

Also, making plastic bottles uses up a lot of fossil fuel & pollutes the environment.

And if you do have plastic bottles, refill them and keep reusing them.

I will not drink the local water. It has too many minerals in it and I love my keurig and will only use bottle water in it. I recycle my bottles, none get thrown in the trash.

Re: In case you didn't know this

WHEN will this "bottled water" bit be O.V.E.R.? Did I hear that somewhere in California, bottled water being sold is getting banned? Hallelujah! Dallas just passed the beginning stages of no-store-plastic-bags bit...baby steps, but it can be done.

moxie: I totally understand where some areas of the country/world needs bottled water, but if it's not a health issue, there must be another way to attain the non-tap water desired. Have you looked in to getting "bulk" container water refills @ your grocery store? I have two 2-gallon containers I refill @ Whole Foods & Kroger (a generic supermarket)...it reduces the amount of plastic immensely.
