Re: In Remembrance...Memorial Day Weekend

Thinking of my Father today.

He went to war, came home and then never spoke of what he did or what was done. I didn't find out the extent of his service until his death.

Dad, thank you to you and those who served. You have made it possible to have the free life we have in the USA. All my love.

Love your Avatar. We brought in 2 brothers that were born on our property. They were kittens and their mother I found dead on the highway above our house.

One we named Shadow, the other is Jasper. They both were black cats with a hint of white on them. We lost Shadow many years ago, but Jasper is now our oldest at 13+ years.

Lost count of the number of all black cats we brought in over the years, guessing at least a dozen. All rescues, most of which were born somewhere on our property, or dumped by some soul less human, on the highway above our home.

We recently brought in 2 kittens, rescued from our Humane Society. They are both non stop active!

In memory of DH's uncle, who was a pilot shot down over the Pacific near the Philippines. They never found him. DH is named after him.

In memory of our fathers and uncles, who served with distinction in Europe and Korea.

In memory of the two local boys, who dropped out of college to fight in Iraq. One was hit by a sniper; one by an IED.

In memory of the college friends we lost in the Middle East.

@hckynutjohn ...

Thank you!...I changed my Avatar and User Name in memory of my precious panther kitty, Shadow...She crossed over the Rainbow Bridge last October at 18-1/2 years old...and there are no words to describe how much I miss her so very much...the unconditional love, warmth, comfort, companionship, snuggles, smiles and laughter that she filled our home with...It feels just like yesterday and our home is so empty without her.

She was a beauty...totally black with large greenish/goldish eyes...very sleek body with shiny fur...weighed no more than 10 lbs...kept herself and me also in good shape...lol...as she would go through frequent aerobic activity throughout the entire house and insisted that I join in with her.

I could go on and on about her very special personality that filled our lives and home with such joy and love; however, it would take up several pages...She was so very special in so many ways and I grieve her loss so very much.

I know you understand as I am very familiar with your love for animals also and the many cats that have filled your life and home...If I recall correctly, at one time, you had 13 indoor cats and I thought to myself that this dear, compassionate man has actually turned his home into a very loving mini kitty forever shelter. Heart

They are, most definitely, such very special blessings in our lives which would never be complete without them. Heart

God Bless you, John, and God Bless America! Heart

Re: In Remembrance...Memorial Day Weekend

I caught the tail end of Jessie Waters today and Johnny Asked one person why do we celebrate MD.  They didn't know.

He asked another who bombed Pearl Harbor.  They said, US.

I can't believe there are people, young, who don't know common history.  SAD.

@beach-mom ...In reading through everyone's posts, I think to myself....how amazing it is that, when each of us go back through the history of our families and friends throughout our lives...the losses and also injuries suffered and endured from War!
