We bought our current house in 1996 and it already had a radon removal and testing system in place. It is monitored and checked every 2 or 3 years, I forget the timing-the test results are sent to a center for checking.

I'm in shock right now. I retested for radon and the result came back an alarming 15 on the scale. I'm in the process of finding a mitigation contractor right now and it can't come soon enough. Contractors are extremely busy in my area b/c of the high radon levels in this area. In the meantime I am retesting to confirm that high reading but most likely it will be the same or possibly even higher.

I never thought to retest after having new windows installed and extra insulation put in my house. That caused the radon to built up in my house to an unsafe level b/c now my house is all weather-sealed up and that traps the radon gas inside. It's wintertime I can't open windows to air it out. That would only be a very temporary solution and the radon will be back in no time.
