Re: If they could do this . . .

When I see young adults acting like self entitled twits I wonder where are the parents ?  I know nobody disciplines their kids any more. All raised

like gerbils from day one, but, looks like the parents of these older kids could suggest that maybe it's not a good idea to go to a swimming event, wedding, rally, sporting event, etc.

they do what they want too and think nothing about coming home and there sits parents and grandparents. Super spreader.

@noodleann   I think back to very early on during this pandemic and an elderly lady was interviewed and she couldn't understand why people couldn't avoid the massive party crowds when they were being asked to stay home for the sake of everyone's safety.  She mentioned that the youth in her day were asked to sacrifice and go to war, and today, some of the young adults being asked to help control the virus couldn't even stay home on the couch.

People really have not changed. They remain the same. Back then men were drafted and yes they went to war but plenty did what they could not to serve. My 91 year old dad and 101 year old uncle often defended the youth of America because they knew plenty of people who avoided serving back in their day. As far as the VietnamWar, many high profile individuals had daddy get them off from being drafted.

So let's not rewrite history and look back on it with rose colored glasses. The youth of America aren't all that different than preceding generations...There have always been those who care about others and those who don't and that's not just the youth of America but every generation as well.

Both pictures in the OP are examples of patriotism.

Re: If they could do this . . .

@noodleann  If only it were that simple. If you research (internationally), the opinions/evidence/statements of scientists, it seems we are dealing with a GOF (Gain of Function) virus, one that has a capacity for vast evolution and adaptation. This is evidenced by the wide variety of symptoms/damage we are showing after infection, like brain, lung and heart damage. This is not the Spanish Flu. These docs are saying this virus has been genetically manipulated. So what happens? It doesn't look like we know. So wearing a mask, social distancing and some level of isolation are steps we can take to mitigate this. Sweden's experiment with choosing the theory of "herd immunity" by leaving the country open backfired terribly. Probably our best hope is to LOSE weight (obesity being a major marker for infection complications), and build up our immune systems through a highly nutritious diet and exercise. Let's pray, and pray some more.

You would think, @noodleann. Apparently a lot of folks have a different mentality now. I get the feeling we are dealing with a lot of spoiled brats.

@happycat   Unfortunately, people have been dealing with this since mid-March and some have become complacent. We really can't do that and expect to see the end of this tragedy. Some states have also issued lockdowns and personally, I've felt for a few months that 3 weeks of staying home, except for necessary errands, may be the only way to stop COVID. I'm still hearing people discuss their big get togethers for the holidays. What?!?!

On Veteran's day one of my SO's relatives was bragging about the sacrifices made by members of the family posting pictures of family members who served in WW11, Korean War, Vietnam war and females in the family who volunteered to work in factories during the war and voluntarily gave back their gas coupons for the military but yet she says she is not going to stop living to help curb this virus and help save lives!!!  This is an era of so many selfish people who only want what they want.  While I can understand people wanting their kids not to have the struggles they did but many are not enforcing core values and as a result it appears each generation is creating more and more it's all about me people!!!

@Pook   It's just not the kids. The adults are partying and going to group gatherings, protests w/o masks as well.

The majority of the people that I have encountered who won't wear masks are way over the age of 30. I guess their parents must have raised them "like gerbils" too.

@SharkE   I've seen many adults on the beach, at bars, taking vacations, etc. I think we ALL need to step back and take a look at what we're doing that's not helping this situation.

Re: If they could do this . . .

I agree with Shanus, it's not just the kids, plenty of adults are defiant as well. I know an older couple in my town---mid 60's--who are militant anti-maskers and refuse to wear them as they think it infringes on their rights. And I DON'T agree with this but it's the way some people are unfortunately.
