I think I have rescued a Sheltie

I have 2 wonderful Sheltie Girls that I love very much. Today, my groomer called me and said there was an older couple whose Granddaughter brought a Sheltie home from college but they could not keep it so they were going to take him to a Shelter. I went and picked him up. He is really sweet, they say about 2 1/2 years old. He is well mannered. I am going to have his Chip scanned and see what information they have on him. The granddaughter told the older couple that she was watching him for a coworker and the coworker never returned from the trip. When questioned further, they suspect that she adopted him from someone in the military and then found she could not keep him and was afraid to tell her Grandparents what she had done. So I will see what the chip says. His name is Sargent or Major but he does not answer to either. I need some nice male names in case I end up keeping him. If I can't find his owner and he is truly abandoned, I may keep him. He is very sweet and I feel there is a reason that he came into my life today. I was not looking for a Sheltie.

Re: I think I have rescued a Sheltie

Sounds like you two may be destined, fated, meant-to-be.... Hugs to you, the (hopefully) newest addition, and your gals. 8)

A Sheltie trio sounds awesome, and it will be a nice little 'sandwich': sweet girls on each end with a rascally boy as the filling. Smiley Wink

Re: I think I have rescued a Sheltie

It's so great what you are doing for this little dog, taking him in and also trying to track his previous owner! If you do end up keeping him, how about calling him Cooper? As was pointed out in another thread today (May 7) is Gary Cooper's birthday - they do not come any more masculine than that man! Good luck and please let us know what happensSmile

Cooper is a strong name. I have a vet appt. for him tomorrow. Funny my Abby who can be a controller and herder quickly assessed him and has let him know his place. Now all is well. I will finish the story tomorrow after his chip is scanned.

Re: I think I have rescued a Sheltie

Bless you for rescuing. If everyone would rescue one precious furry friend, we might not have any homeless animals. I hope we see that day come.

I love the name Cooper. My next male will be Butch. Love that too.

I have been calling him Cooper and it may fit. I will let everyone know what I find out tomorrow. He is very happy right now.

conit..

Just as I truly believe that Divine Intervention sent the five kitties that I have (all rescues) into my life, I believe that the same Divine Intervention had a hand in getting this precious Sheltie into your life.{#emotions_dlg.thumbup}Smile

Maybe that's also meant-to-be as both your nic here and his possible new name begin with a "C". Yep, I'm one of those who notice tiny things like that, LOL.

Re: I think I have rescued a Sheltie

Now I am calling him Coco and that fits too. The granddaughter finally came clean that she lied to her Grandparents about someone abandoning the dog. She is a 22 year old college student. Her and her roommate scraped together $120 each and adopted him from a shelter. Then she realized that Shelties are active and vocal and she was not sure that she could care for him so she told her Grandparents the story about a coworker abandoning him. She texted me this afternoon that she is not sure she can take care of him but would like him back. Right now, I have her convinced to let me keep him. I gave him a good bath tonight because he was filthy. She sent me pictures of his vaccination and heartworm treatment records so I think he is good. Hi last heartworm medication was April 9th. I am bringing him to the Vet tomorrow so I will be able to dose him tomorrow. He definitely had a Devine intervention in the fact that she was trying to scrape money together to buy him a heartworm dose.

I'm so glad that you convinced this girl to let you keep him, especially since she's in no condition to properly care for Coco in the manner in which you can.

I also pray that she doesn't suddenly change her mind one day and shows up at your door.

Please keep us informed with any updates.
