Hi, Bubby, they also own Giant Food here in MD. They should have sent a letter of explanation along with the check.

There is no telephone number on the accompanying paper. I tried to google the company, and I could get no phone number off the website either.

As I said, simplest thing is to call the company direct.

From what I understand the data breach was for employees. I am not an employee of the market.

Thanks, ladies. I will throw the check in the garbage! Something is definitely off.

I finally found a phone number for this company...........it is in the Netherlands. Like I said - this dopey check is going in the garbage!

You're not alone. If you google "is Ahold Delhaize sending checks out?" you'll see many people asking the same question. Apparently, over 2 million people were affected by this data breach.

@Bubby Mommy -- you got some great info from your post. I learned a lot from it. Glad you are going to trash the check!

Yeah, I don't think it's a scam or fake check. There was a data breach in nov 2024 that mostly impacted Ahold employees, but also customers depending on whether one had a prescription filled, a loyalty card or other services used. Most say there was a letter or email sent separately, but some say they never saw a letter. Definitely a lot of people saying they received and cashed.
Not everything is a scam.

Usually there is a law firm associated with claim payouts. I had a good side hustle going for quite a while with all the people who either lost my info or sold me bad products. Everyone was a class action on my behalf with lawyers.
Each and every one I had to make a claim for though. If you didn't and it's a small amount, I would trash it too. You're not automatically part of any settlement unless you got an opt out postcard at some point which I believe legally they have to do to preserve your rights if you want to, before you get payment of any kind.
If they didn't, I'd trash it too.

@Laura14 I agree -- it is a small amount and not worth the time and trouble to pursue it further, much less the suspected risk in cashing it.
