I think we will get him a meal from KFC tonight and just drop it off. We often send food to him ,and he never refuses it. I can't tell you how many lovely things he has done for us ,during the years we have been neighbors. I want him to understand how much we treasure him, and his late wife

I don't know if he would agree to go out to dinner with us, but maybe we could get him a meal from KFC, and just take it to him?
@cherryYou may want to cook him something or bake him something yourself. You can let him know you were baking cookies (or whatever) and you thought he may like some.
I agree that you should let him know that it's not necessary, but take the money. It may make him feel proud and less of a burden.
Such a kind man. My Dad was the same way. Your post made me smile.
You are very kind to help him out at this point of his life, when he's alone in his house.

You have your answer right there.

If you don't take it he might quit asking for a ride. He needs to get out and that is a very proud generation .Have you ever had him over or taken dinner or baked goods you make to him. He may be very lonely. Thanks for giving him rides.

I do send things to him. I am not sure what kind of diet he is on ,but I never load him up with more than just a portion of something
I am diabetic, so I don't eat much of this type of thing, but when I do have something, I always make sure ,there is enough for him, too @fluffysmom

@cherry You are a good woman.

Well, I am not so sure about that, but I try @fluffysmom

Or bake him a treat. People appreciate homemade things.

@cherry, I understand that you don't want to accept the money, but it sounds like this gentleman had his pride. Unless you feel he can't afford it, accept it gracefully, and then donate or take him to lunch. It sounds like you are all good people.

I have done this before. Purchase a gift card from a restaurant and say someone gave it to you and you would like to share it with him. Take him out to eat that way.
