Re: I'm Still Stunned.... Warning.... Long explanation.

Commenting to add:

O/T : I don't like to stereotype...

My feeling is that the younger the person is who is making a mistake (made me feel treated rudely) then the greater the chance I might help their future.

Also O/T : if there is a business I WANT to patronize, then I make the attempt to let them know (nicely) how they have made me feel. This with the hopes that they will stay in business.

@Q4u, wow, that is some bad service!

I have one puzzling question, and I have not had time to read through the replies (sorry but I am so short on time right now).

If someone orders an egg white omelet, why can't they make the omelet?  They may be out of the liquid egg white in the carton, but they do have eggs, right?  Just use real egg whites.

Good point. I was wondering that myself.

The guy probably didn't put the order in right and was just a jerk about it.

The Egg and I ?  is this the name of the restaurant?  its a chain all over the southwest. go on Yelp there are tons of poor reviews.  dirty glasses, horrible food ,  long waits, condescending waitstaff. maybe the kitchen has no idea how to separate an egg. they use liquid eggs for egg white omelets.

to be fair there are many 5 star reviews too

whether a chain or mom n pop,   the customer is always right

Re: I'm Still Stunned.... Warning.... Long explanation.

really surprised that waiter was still around. i can not believe you guys were the only ones he had trouble with. There must be other customers he was giving a hard time too.

We go to local diners at times, we know a few of the waiters (male-female) and they come to us to get our order.

There was only 1 time i had trouble with a waiter.

Years ago local pub eating place. I had just enough to pay for the order (i had NO tip money on me-i thought i had grabbed more money than actually had). I had to leave no tip for waiter.

I went back to this pub several weeks later and this waiter was there. She told me point blank before I ordered the meal I ordered is X amount of money and that DOES NOT INCLUDE THE TIP.  I left her a tip for last time and this time. I never went back to that pub.   the business closed down shortly after that visit of mine (the owner moved to Florida).

Are egg whites not real eggs?

@nun ya, many breakfast restaurants use 'liquid eggs' that come in a carton...otherwise when someone orders scrambled eggs or an omelet, they'd be cracking & whisking all the time.

Example: When a morning menu offers 1, 2 or 3 eggs cooked to your specification - sometimes if a customer orders 1 scrambled egg, the cook will over-pour the liquid eggs, resulting in a much larger portion.

When served, the customer will exclaim "Wow! That must've been one huge egg!" Smiley LOL

ETA: There are also cartons of liquid egg whites, but not everyone uses those. Why? Because if the restaurant makes their own Hollandaise, the egg whites aren't used & kept on hand for 'egg white only' orders.

Bottom line: If the OP's breakfast restaurant was "out of egg whites", but were still serving eggs...he lied because he screwed up the order.

Muddling through...

Some people only eat the whites of eggs because they don't contain the cholesterol. That's my understanding of it.

right. My daughter buys those little carton of egg whites. I just wasn't sure if they were actually eggs...I guess the guy saying they didn't have any (but had whole eggs) made my brain hurt.
