I really, really do. Unfortunately, my cardiologist has given me orders to never eat another slice of the good stuff for the rest of my life. I mean, how can a life without bacon can be a good life? My question to you is can anybody here tell me if they have found a replacement for bacon that even resembles the taste of the real stuff? Can anybody tell me if that awful looking turkey bacon is edible? Or is that full of fat and sodium too? Hope springs eternal.

I've always said bacon should be its own food group. LOL.

I love bacon but rarely eat it. I don't keep it in the house. I will order it if I'm out for breakfast sometimes.

I hope someone can suggest an option you will like.

I like bacon but certainly don't love it.  I will buy it to flavor green beans.  I then remove the bacon and save it for an omelette.  I actually prefer turkey bacon.  Some brands are better than others and it's not quite as smoky tasting as regular bacon but throw some in a microwave and the whole piece is crispy which is what I prefer as I about gag on limp bacon.

If bacon didn't exist I could be a vegetarian.

we ate bacon about once month but about a year ago, i have given up pork completely.

1.  my LDL was elevated

2.  i saw a pig transport trucker and knew their fate, as they stuck their snouts out the holes, i vowed then and there 'no more pork products' and have easily stuck to it.

3.  i have, for the most part, eaten 'clean' but the last year or so have gone 'very clean'.  simple easy foods, no processed or ultra processed foods.  LDL dropped 29 points, my doc wanted to know what i did over the course of 10 months!!

4. so true:  stay out of the center aisles, that is where all the junk is.

5. more recipes with golden flax meal, chia seeds, coconut flour.  if you really want to eat healthy, it is so doable, just need some thought and planning.

6.  its def. a mindset & a lifestyle choice.

7.  i feel better:  body feels good, i sleep better, more energy.

OP:  what were your numbers, if you don't mind sharing. i think you stated your cholesterol - LDL 198??

if that is true, stick to what your doc said, that is extremely high...

@cody2  This obvious that your cardiologist is not educated on what foods are healthy and what ones are not. Do your own research and, maybe consider finding a doctor who is better educated & gives better advice.

And the other part is no more steaks, pizza wit pepperoni, baked goods or croissants. Nothing fried or salted. Pretty much anything that tastes good. Basically if it tastes good, spit it out because it is no good for you. Darn it. Hard not to feel sorry for myself.       Smiley LOL

@cody2  He is spouting incorrect info he heard that was never true and that  can be harmful to your health. Never blindly believe a doctor; they will never be as concerned about your health as you are.

I don't mind turkey bacon in a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich w/mayo on toast. I wouldn't eat it as a side with my scrambled eggs though. Have you tried canadian bacon? That is very good and can be cooked crispy, if that's the texture you are looking for.....

@LizzieInSRQ  I use a lot of bacon crumbles in cooking also.  I'm too lazy to cook bacon when it calls for it in a recipe.   I like your idea of mixing it w/mayo for sandwhches.  Thanks!

Good morning all. Just a quick rebuttal, lol. My post was partly in jest. The other part is I don't want to deal with my new health issues. The only weight problem I have is holding on to the little that I have. My cardiologist is a lady. I like and trust her. I really appreciate all the people that took the time to sympathize with me and my whining about yet another injustice we suffer while on this earth. But yes. I guess I shouldn't complain as I am still above ground. Just not a great day. But darn it. I still don't like the new diet. I am going to see a diet specialist. It is hard to gain weight if you can't eat anything. Thanks again.
