Re: I didn't get the job

[ Edited ]

@LuvSoCal  Thank you very much for your words of encouragement! Excellent points, I am very interested in getting a job with a pension of some kind.  I want to work hard now and for the next twenty or thirty more years and be able to retire.  My family has been so supportive of me in this journey and are also just as shocked as I am that I didn't make the cut.  They believe in me so much and they're looking forward to what life has to offer me as I create more goals and move into different career directions.  I think my parents were worried about if I could get hurt on the job, but they also know that I'm pretty strong and tough and so they knew I could hold my own if I had to defend myself or subdue someone and calm them down.  I'll definitely search for whatever is around the corner and I'm ready to walk into whatever career options I can explore. Smiley Happy

There’s usually some sort of medical form to fill out before doing any of the physical fitness testing?

Are you making a total career change from what you are currently doing?

I admire your spirit and your want to be a police officer in today's world.  You my dear, will go far in whatever else you choose to do, since you throw your heart over the bar to get there.  You're an olympic woman!!!

@SportyShorty07

I am so sorry and disappointed for you!  I know you really wanted this and you worked very hard for it!  I don't understand why they could not give you the reasoning from your background report?  Maybe it is some incorrect information and you could get it corrected!

You sound like you are so physically fit ---that's amazing!  I would not give up your dream.  The next time you are allowed, I would apply again.  You have so much to offer to them and would be a great asset.

After you have had a chance to re-group, I would start figuring out for sure where I would like to direct my attention until then.  You said you have a lot of experience and interest in fitness, cooking and art.  Maybe you could do some on-line classes for different things to start off until you decide for sure what grabs you the most.

You are such a talented and inspiring person, you will be a success no matter what you do!!!

This thread has me remembering a cousin (graduated high school in 1959) who loved art, loved cooking, took classes and worked in both.......

......and then went on to create a fabulous and fun career as a restaurant designer. Happy guy!

@SportyShorty07 - I haven’t communicated with you but have read your story & comments. I’ve hired many people over the years. Don’t think of yourself as a rejection but sometimes when there are limited positions, choices have to be made between candidates & one candidate may have an edge over the other & a choice is made. Maybe someone was taller, younger or even politically connected but it doesn’t mean you were unqualified. Just view it as a life experience and move on & learn by it.

Since you seem to want to be in a career that serves humankind, have you ever considered Mercy Ships? It’s a wonderful opportunity to travel if you enjoy it & very unique opportunities & job offerings even bakers? They do wonderful & necessary work. I took a sabbatical from my job & did a stint & you don’t have to make a long term commitment. I also made lifelong friends from other countries; it is a bonding experience. But, it’s not for everyone.

@AngelPuppy1  Thank you so very much, Angel Puppy! You know its interesting that you bring up incorrect info on their end because when I passed the fitness test, they miscalculated the scores and sent me a formal email that said that I failed the fitness test when the scores listed in the email proved I passed- in that case I did appeal the results and they apologized and passed me and brought me to the next round of the process Smiley Happy.  I think in this case, applicants are not able to find out why they were taken out of the running- maybe they just found more qualified candidates. Either way, I tried my best and I'm grateful to be able to get this far in the process.

      Every year, hundreds and hundreds apply and each academy class is only 30 or less- that means ton of people probably are let go during the application process and not given a job offer, but are told to reapply without explanation since they have to narrow it down to a select few.  I looked at forums and there are some cops who've been rejected and have applied over and over for 8 years after not making the cut and get a job, so waiting 2 years to reapply will be something I can consider when that deadline comes closer- but I will create other career dreams in the meantime Smiley Happy.  Thank you so very much for your support!

@PickyPicky3  Wow! That's wonderful and so inspiring! That's really amazing that your husband combined his passion for cooking and art and became a restaurant designer Smiley Happy.  I wish him continued success in his career and thank you for your support and sharing that story!
