I Pulled the Plug on My Laptop Today

You may remember that I took my laptop in for repair when the fan stopped working.

Well, today I was told that my hard drive was on its last legs too.

If I were to replace both the hard drive and fan, then throw in labor, I would be spending almost as much as if I were to buy a new laptop.

So, seeing as how it didn't make any sense to do that, I decided to just have them pull photos and documents off of there, and leave the rest.

Am I disappointed?

Sure, but I'm not too upset, because it is about ten years old, so I feel as though I got my money's worth out of it.

Now to get another laptop.

@Anonymous032819 don't rush in to buying a laptop, you don't want to buy something you'll be unhappy with. Make sure you do your homework, research what you're looking for. Good luck!

Oh, you totally got your money's worth, having ten years of use!  Glad you were able to get your stuff before it died.

Hope you find a great replacement!   I use only laptops, for quite a few years now, and couldn't be more pleased.   For me, laptops have lasted way longer than any of the desktop computers (PC) ever did, so I never looked back.

When you said it was in for repairs and that it is 10 years old; I knew where things were going.

That's the just the opposite of what happens here.  I'm on my 3rd laptop in the time my husband has been using his current desktop.

I get the hand-me-downs from DS and GS.  I have never purchased a laptop. DH purchased one years ago but that one died, eventually.  Now he also gets the hand-me-dowm.

It's not like we need them for anything serious.

To be safe, I'd ask them to give me the hard drive out of it.

But, that's just me.

My laptop is less than four years old but I seldom use it anymore.  My iPad can do almost anything I need.

I agree. I typically get seven-plus years from a desktop and even then they're typically working fine, just obsolete. Should anything go wrong they're also much easier to fix. Four years seems to be about the average life of most laptops and many need new batteries even before that.

I always have my BIL do that especially since I have years of income taxes on there.
