Bear with me and I am hopefully passing the lucky shamrock along....
I have always submitted an EZ form to the IRS because I own nothing and single people are never ever allowed to claim anything ever as a deduction. It's been against the law my entire life.
So I am pretty straight forward and always get my refund quickly. It's normally around $700 and this year it was supposed to be around that. I always do my own and submit and bingo it appears in my bank account.
Well this year, no refund. I wait and wait and finally stumble across the online "where's my refund" tool and I kept getting the message that the IRS normally refunds 9 out of 10 refunds in 21 days. Then where is mine? Laura has some EZ Pay to pay!
I get the message the "IRS is still processing your return." So I wait. I just checked the status again not expecting to see anything on a Sunday but there it was. And I printed it out for proof!
The IRS amended my return and, instead of my $700, they are refunding me over twice that amount and it's coming in a week. ![]()

I am typing this still on the floor with my mouth open. I have NEVER gotten a refund anywhere near that. If I knew who checked my return and gave me twice my refund back, I'd send them a Mrs. Prindables basket.
Use the free fillable forms provided by the IRS and e-file it if you can. Hopefully, they'll double down on you too!

@Carol08 I know! I'm enjoying my happiness before it turns to tears as the bill paying begins. I've already put a box of tissues on the shopping list.

I am glad to hear that your refund went in your favor and the IRS amended your return.
What are you going to do with the "extra" money?

@drizzellla Savings for most of it but I am definitely going to spend a little mad money. And to think I was worried about buying the one day only trunk organizer and paying S&H which I hate to do this morning.

The IRS computer did it's job and you are getting the refund you were entitled to. Good for you but that's what IRS is supposed to do. As for single people and deductions; there are tons of deductions that single people are entitled too. Single people own homes and property and have investment income and children and everything else that everyone else has. You don't have deductions other than the standard deduction due to your lower income and lack of resources....not because you aren't married. No, there are no "people" sitting at desks processing the the 100 million or more tax returns...lol Even the returns that are done on paper and sent in by snail mail are scanned or keyed into the computers for processing.

Maybe you will be able to claim the box of tissues on next year's tax forms......and get reimbursed for them....It sounds like you got the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow before St. Patrick's Day!!

LOL @Carol08 ! They knew it's been a rough start to 2018. Between a car accident and my mom going into surgery next week, I needed to be Irish for a day. Hopefully, the luck rubs off. Touch my post quick! LOL
