Also I never heard of sending a thank you note for a job interview until these boards.

I am in my late 50s and ALWAYS sent a thank you for a job interview...in handwriting...in an envelope with a stamp on it.

When I say that I balance my checkbook, those several decades younger think that's "quaint" -- they just go online and see what's in their account.

When I see so many teens and adults sitting in their cars, with their necks bent forward, texting. Sometimes I think they are de*d. One time I actually knocked on the side window, thinking the person was unconscious. Not too good for their necks, for sure. Time will unfortunately tell........

I think we can all be billionaires if we invest in a company that makes neck braces or medical equipment/medication that treats ailments caused by being bent over and texting .....

When I interviewed for my current job I sent a follow email thanking the two people for their time and the opportunity to meet with them...I then also added that I hoped to get the opportunity to bring my skills to their company......I know my thank you is not the only reason I got this job but it certainly didn't hurt...in fact the HR person who sat in on my interview told me how impressed she and the other interviewer was over my taking the time to thank them.

I send thank you notes, hand written, by mail too. I do occasionally text or email thank you, depending on the person. But job interviews? Nope, never have. I don't think it's a bad idea, it just never occurred to me to do so. Learn something new around here everyday!

It never occurred to me to send a thank you. I always thanked the interviewer personally at the end of the interview. I haven't interviewed in 30 years but have asked 4 college grads in the family who have all got excellent jobs in the last 5 years and none of them have heard of it either.

I've known a couple of people whose thank you note to the interviewer is the thing that made an impression on the interviewers and helped them to stand out among many and get the jobs. I was always taught that this is standard business etiquette.
