I knew I was of a different generation when a twenty-year-old didn't know what time "A quarter to three" was. When did you know you were of a different generation?
If you want to, it's your turn if you want to play:
I Knew I Was of a Different Generation When _____________ ...

When I got a traffic ticket from a Policewoman that looked younger than my youngest daughter!! Really!! She looked like a teenager!!

...I mentioned carrying a pager in high school, instead of a cell phone.

...a typical dress to be worn around town or on TV today looks almost exactly like a bathing suit to be worn to the pool or beach in the 1950s.

...I realized that correct grammar was not only something to tease someone about (e.g.-- "you nerd!!"
)...it was something to dislike such a "snob" over.
As a waitress, I learned very quickly that I should avoid using correct grammar when speaking with many of my co-workers. Actually, there are a few who know what I mean and sympathize. I was joking with a co-worker the other day (he's studying electrical engineering) and we were chuckling about "being seated." In casual restaurant vernacular, the proper way to let another server know that he/she has had a party seated in his/her section is to say, "hey, [name], you got sat!!"
You've just got to "go with the flow" if you want to get along with everyone, I guess.
Then again...perhaps it's not a generational thing...I don't know. Maybe someone who has waited tables in the past can shed some light on the subject...?

I keep a bookcase at my job that contains old computer stuff from the 1980's thru today (cause today's stuff will be obsolete soon too!!)
One of the more fun items is an old phone modem - the one where you put Ma Bell's receiver into the "holes". No modern phone looks like that anymore and most people carry cell phones! So, whenever a student or a younger employee, and sees that, they ask what it is and I have to explain how it all used to work and google for a picture of those old Ma Bell like phones.
that is how I know I am of a different generation ![]()
