I am very particular who I watch. Even my local news stations make me very angry at times with their obvious slant on the news.

I feel that way about FB. I rarely go on anymore because of all the conspiracy theories going around. They were out in full force yesterday when our governor tested positive for covid and now it's even worse today afer the negative test.
If they had an ounce of actual common sense it might not be so bad. LOL

@CrazyKittyLvr2 One of my friends and I were talking about the sad state of affairs by phone the other day. She said she believes God saw the vile way people are treating each other and allowed the pandemic so that we are in a time out to reflect and regroup. I was at a loss for words, granted this does not happen to me often. I watch my local news to see how many new cases are reported and try to limit nat'l news.

@Lipstickdiva I'm not on Facebook but one of my former SILs is. She asked for my email address to send me a pic of their great granddaughter. I wanted to see the little girl and gave it to her.
I got the pic...........and then the political emails started. I opened the 1st one unaware of what it was. It was BS and easily disproved and I sent back it was not correct and was a pic from 2016 thinking she would stop. Nope.
I just automatically hit delete when she sent somethin after that.. After 3 weeks I said enough. Next one was an article by a bat-sh*t crazy rocker and sent back I thought he was a gigantic a-hole and that as soon as I saw his name I even didn't read article.
I hit Send and haven't heard a peep since. We are 180 degrees on views and that will never change.

Make sure to back off Facebook too. The worst Fake News is on there. People share it thinking it is real.

If you watch any news all day long. Stop. It's like watching scary movies or true crime shows all day long. It will mess with your head. Figure out a non-biased way to stay informed that doesn't alarm you too much, dip in for 15 minutes and then dip out. That is what has worked for me. No Facebook. No "entertainment" or "commentary" or "comedy" news either. I've weeded out my Youtube feed and paid to remove the ads from videos.
I've been watching a fabulous video course from The Great Courses Company called Fighting Misinformation: Digital Medial Literacy. If you feel like your consumption of media has affected you negatively, well, it turns out your gut is right about that. I'd highly recommend this course if you have access to it.

I am not sure if you are aware of this but you can put people on snooze for 30 days, and not here a peep out of them and they are none the wiser. I have had to do that a time or two this year with different friends.

I totally agree with your subject heading.
I have for a long time stopped watching the news.
I get more than enough info from friends and my oldest daughter constantly talking about the virus.
Even when I tell my friends I don't listen they find a way to bla bla to me.
I feel like sticking my fingers in my ears and going La La La....I don't hear you, but that would be rude.........

Yeah, this and a few other forums are my "happy places" as well as a few YouTube channels. The MOMENT it becomes political, I unsubscribe/stop visiting; have no time for that ******. I work in the mental health field in a hospital setting so there is plenty of REALITY in my world. Updated almost every hour and so many walking a thin line in many ways. No Facebook or Instagram for me; I subscribe only to those things involving my children and my career so texts and emails are limited to those (except for Dear Friends and family, of course).
You set the rules that work for you. If you have to disconnect, you do so. No one is going to take care of you, so take care of yourself however you must.
