My feet grew quickly; I wore a woman's 8 when I was 8. I thought my foot size would continue to match my age. That was a torment of fear for a few years! My feet then decided to slow down and I wear a 10. My folks had no idea you could order decent looking shoes from catalogs, nor would they have spent the money had they known, so I wore whatever hideous shoes were in stock at JCP back in the day. Most stores carried 5 - 9, and I can't tell you how many times a clerk would just assume I could cram my foot into a shoe two sizes too small. I realize there are folks who have serious foot problems, and of course I appreciate my healthy feet now, but when I was 16, "old" people's foot issues were not on my radar. I wanted pretty prom shoes!

My dad was a great tease when I was a kid, I went through the "ski's" remarks and the "throw away the shoes and keep the boxes" thing. He wasn't mean just teased. I wear a 9, mom always tried to talk me into a 10 so we could share shoes. That too we laughed at. At elementary school a sign I don't forget said, "I felt bad because I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet". So early childhood I learned from that quote to be thankful for what you do have. I've never forgotten that poster on the school's principal's office.

My feet are a size 10 medium front and narrow heels. I have had trouble finding shoes all my life. But I was a good athlete and always was able to walk, hike, mountain climb in the alps and basically do what I loved. Only dress shoes with high heels were a problem to find. I once picked out a lovely pair of shoes in the store and wanted to try them on when the sales man said: for those feet???
Both my mother and my sister whose shoe size was 7, made fun of me all the time. So as I got older the problems started in earnest. Pain when I walked, etc. My mother would just say that she could not understand that someone with huge feet could have problems (she said the same to my father).
Later, in my 60s I could only wear ambulator shoes

and then after that I wore only pants for the first time in my life so I started complaining about the clunky shoes and the fact that I could no longer wear dresses and skirts (have always hated to wear pants)
So now, in my late 70s I have a hard time just walking without pain. Now I am dreaming about the good "old" days when I was able to walk painfree wearing ambulators and pants. I no longer dream about wearing dresses, skirts, and dress shoes. I just want to be painfree.
Enjoy your feet as long as you can.

9 Wide here. Totally empathize with your post.
Shoes have always, always been an issue. Add bunions to the mix and it is worse.
A couple of years ago, I found a pair of dress sandals with 2 inch heels. They are the most wonderful shoes in comfort and in how they look on my feet. I bought two of the same pair so I would have a back up. Pair number one needs some repairs, but the cobbler can't fix them due to them being one piece heel and sole. Argh! Still have the back up pair, though.
Nordstrom is the best place for me to find shoes. I've tried all specialty sites and stores and Nordstrom will always have something good for me.
I've had KP on my upper arms since I was a teen. I don't wear sleeveless because of it.

I know you've probably heard or read this before - Be glad you have feet, there are those who don't and would gladly have the feet you do.
There are many shoe catalogs and on-line sellers for what you desire.
You have made me thankful for my feet today. I am not your size but I take my feet for granted.
