I'm in SC and we are keeping an eye on this storm to see which direction it will head.

Re: Hurricane Matthew

[ Edited ]

Hi, @JaneMarple,   Matthew, according to the cone of error, could sweep South Florida as a Cat. 2.

My house is fragile, I have called around to see if I can book a motel, and they are all already booked by the media.  This has happened before.  Smiley Happy

Another night hunkered down in a closet.  By some Rule of Hurricanes, they almost always are worst at night.

Not that it is a sure thing it will strike, but we are in the US projections as a strike zone.  The European model says it will brush by to the side.  The forecasts get a lot more reliable as a storm approaches.

If it does come, at least I have a reliable car.  I'll go north, though I would prefer just to go west with the kitties to a motel a few miles inland.  Those I called (that take cats) are already booked by outside media, hoping to pose in rain slickers being blown about by the wind.  They could always just run footage from a storm 20 years ago, and not hog motel space that locals might need.

Thanks, Cherry,  It may pass by us to the east, so I'll hope for the best.  I've been in numerous hurricanes here in this house, but I know a bit more now about the house's vulnerabillity.  I maybe can lodge with a colleague, too, if things are looking bad, but I won't leave the house without the 2 cats, and that could be a problem.

Wow! That is so awful about the motel situation, I really do hope that this hurricans does go out to sea and doesn't have an impact on the coast. Praying for you @Burnsite.

@JaneMarple I caught the end of the report but I thought it showed Florida ready for a direct hit Tuesday (?) . Even with the cone of error, Fl. gets a direct hit! Hopefully, if it hits other places first, it won't still be Cat 5! I pray it doesn't harm anyone, but not holding out much hope!

My dad is buried in NC and during Andrew,(I think!) the caskets all came floating up out of the ground and ended up in the middle of roads! Thankfully, we were never told he was one! I pray that should be the worst of the storm!

Never underestimate the power of kindness.

Hoping it's not as bad as predicted.   Jamaica is a lovely island and wouldn't want all that beauty destroyed or damaged.
