I found out that people are having to move due to rennoivations. I think I have maybe 1 more year before they will make me move. I do not actually know yet. how soon before end of lease should you sign with another apartment complex? My lease ends sept. 1 every year. They require 60 days notice. So would may 1 to be putting in applications too soon?
I will probbaly be offered a new apartment at same place but they are rennovating and increasing the rent by $200 and i cant afford that craziness

Seems to me they are breaking the terms of the lease by making you move.
I would then see that as a month to month tenancy.

Could you give notice two months before renovations begin? What about 60 days before your lease renews? You could ask them about the rent increase and if they say they won't raise it, get that and the duration of this promise in writing.

There's a difference between "making" someone move and just not renewing their lease.
@kcladyz I think it really depends on the real estate rental market in that area. In some cases, that 60 day period prior to the end of the lease is plenty of time to find a new place. Obviously, you don't want to find another apartment, sign the lease and pay for it before your other lease is up. You don't want to pay for 2 apartments at one time.
If I were you, and they hadn't given you an idea as to what's coming at 120 days, it doesn't hurt to ask. Maybe they don't intend to empty all apartments, but staying there with horrific noise wouldn't be any fun. ugh

But the OP says....”before they will make me move”
I was going off info given.
The rent is going up at end of lease and OP is choosing not to renew.

The only thing with applying early, if they don't have anything yet that will be available in September, they will not hold an already empty apartment for you until September without charging you the full rent. So you would end up paying rent on both apartments for a period of time.

Talk to the manager at your home base. He' or she should tell you when in answer to those questions on moving out and giving notice, if you have to in this circumstance. In some if you don't give notice, they will charge you a fee.
Then, you can start your new home search and see if you need to get on their list to move in. They'll need to check your credit and need time to figure out your charges for move in. Don't wait until the last minute to do all that.

@kcladyz If you haven't found a place before you have to move could you put your things in storage and stay with family or friends while you search?

I think you should call your rental office and find out if they are going to offer you a new lease when your lease is up. If they say no because they have to renovate your unit, if they are renovating the entire complex. I would start looking for new apartment at least 3 months before your lease ends. I don't think it's as easy as just "signing up" for an apartment. You apply for new apartments and some have waiting lists and you don't always get every apartment yu apply for. You can start making inquiries now to find out about availability and waitlists now.
