I would then see that as a month to month tenancy.
She didn't say they were making her move. It seems like they are doing it the correct way. They are renovating so as the leases end, they are not offering the tenants new leases. The tenants move out and then they renovate the apartments. She said she has a year, so I assume she just signed a new lease.

I dont have family to live with. I am in a 3 building Highrise. Noone in my building knows whats happening. I found it by accident.
My coworker that lived in building 1... I saw move into my building ( I am in the 3rd building) he told me they informed him a year in advance that it was his last year and he had to move or take one of the new apartments. He chose to move in my building for they gave him an estimate that it will be about 2 years before they get to renovating my building. So I have plenty of time it seems. I just need to decide if I should move at the end of my current lease (so I will move on my own terms not their terms) or just stay as long as I can till the end.
Basically we are all lower income individuals and they are converting us to luxury apartments and increasing rent by $200 -$300 a month. No breaks in price for current residents.
I am thinking about riding it to the end for I cant afford to move right now. I want to move out a month in advance whenever the time comes ( basically paying rent twice for 1 month) for I will have time to clean .. etc. But then again a clean apartment may not be necessary if they are going to gut the place. I am just thankful I still have a lot of time to decide to move. now or later.
I know I am probably worrying too soon
I am just not happy about it. This place is far from great but I been here 10 years and see it as my forever home ![]()

When we were looking for a apartment while building most of the complexes had a 1 to 2 month waiting lists. Where we are at you have to give 60 day notice you are moving out. So I would say 60 days. They will know who will be moving out at that time. But it all really depends what kind of notice a apartment complex requires before moving.

I think this is exactly how stable people become homeless. Since she knows what's going on, I don't know why she doesn't have discussion with the people she rents from and just come out and ask them how long she has to stay in that apartment and will it be okay with them if she breaks the lease.
