@tansy From your post, I'd say, your outlook is totally understandable.

A lot of what you wrote I could really relate to! We are about the same age and pretty much the same things have happened to me. I somehow acquired many serious health issues. My energry level took a nose dive. I know these things didn't happen overnight, but it sure feels like it did!
I used to be able to clean house, shop all day, visit with family and friends and have energy left over. Now, there are days I feel worn out just getting out of bed, getting breakfast and getting my grooming completed!
I used to have to be totally coordinated -- head to toe -- everything matching. And total makeup, plus nails and toes done. Jewelry perfect, etc.
Now, I still like to look nice but I no longer am in full makeup --- use tinted moisturizer and lipstick. Usually pull my hair up in a clip, and wear comfortable but attractive top and slacks. Jewelry is very minimal.
Who knew that 10 years could do this much to a person??????
I meant to add here that I feel the biggest thing that changed me in the past 10 years was STRESS! I have experienced a lot of personal losses, tragedies and family issues during this period of time and I don't think anything is worse for a person than this kind of stress. I really believe all of this has aged me more than anything else and beyond belief.

I've changed a lot in my appearance because I have a progressive AI disease that has made me look very different from what I looked like before the disease. People who have not seen me in a long time say I look different and that they almost did not recognize me. It's like I've been reborn into a different body...not a good one either, unfortunately.

Ten years ago I was 58 and still believed things were possible. There was still hope. I always thrived on change and new circumstances. Now I know the situation I am in is the best its going to be and no good changes are going to happen.

I hear this statement just about every day. Folks act like its to be expected. At what age should I expect these aches & pains??? My 95 yr old mother is still waiting for them to appear. My siblings & I who range in age 60-69 are still waiting. My father who was 92 when he passed never had them either.
Genetics?
In my case, it is due to a physically-misdirected employment experience in my youth and middle age.
The human body is a machine and all machines wear down and breakdown over time. A 30 year old automobile does not run as well as a brand new one even if it is in pristine condition. You relatives feel the effects of age, they have their aches and pains. But, I think they probably have no serious health issues and they understand that the occasional twinge, pain, creek is normal and natural and not worth talking about. Genetics and a healthy lifestyle probably does account for the fact that they have no chronic or serious health deficits but aging is not an illness.
