Re: How do you measure someone's intelligence?

When I was in grad school the first time, I went to school in an area that had many "smart" people. There were several grad schools in the area, a couple of them military schools. This was also an area where a lot of high profile and educated people retired. I worked part time in a bank, and many of our clients were retired CEOs of major companies, diplomats, ambassadors, writers, artists, etc. I learned a lot during that time outside of grad school. I'll say this: The REALLY intelligent people don't brag, talk a lot, dominate conversations, bully, or are "in your face." REALLY intelligent people are kind, considerate, GOOD LISTENERS, able to think.outside the box, acknowledge others and don't denigrate anyone. It doesn't matter what your education level. I've known highly educated people who had all the class in the world, and others who were BOORS. And the same goes for people without formal education. To me, intelligence is not just brain smarts. There's also emotional intelligence, social intelligence, and common sense. It's all of these things combined.

I take into account more than just knowledge.

Knowing facts is not enough, you have to be able (in my book) to communicate with others, not be off-putting or condescending and LISTEN to others.

scotttie, I'll always remember a piece of advice one of those clients told me: truly intelligent people don't have to let everyone know it. This was a man who was very successful and very wealthy. And the most unassuming person you could ever meet. Those conversations have always stayed with me. Smiley Happy

Re: How do you measure someone's intelligence?

I don't take measure of anyone's intelligence but my own.
