Re: How do you Clean a Brand-New Toothbrush?

Ford: Always a good idea. After all, we really don't know where various items are being stored, awaiting packaging, etc. We don't know how clean the factories are, either, especially in other countries. And, with what's going on, etc., we don't know who is handling items, whether they are healthy or not, whether or not they have been flying to/visiting other countries, etc. (Unfortunately), and hoping for quick recoveries for all concerned.

{#emotions_dlg.thumbup1} The dishwasher is also good for kitchen sponges that tend to gather a myriad of germs from our counters, etc.

Okay, I've never thought about washing a new toothbrush. Today I am replacing my electric brush and my manual one. Maybe I'll just rinse them in really hot water firstSmiley Happy

Yes, it's really up to us to be very careful, since possibly others, who are ill, aren't. It doesn't take much time and effort to always be careful. Make it a habit, in other words. p.s. No longer, (or not so much), are there many quality-control managers, walking around in white coats, supervising, taking notes, etc. in foreign manufacturing factories. Years ago, as I recall, local factories were an open book, often allowing people to take tours, etc. Companies being proud of their manufacturing process, etc. Not so much anymore in other countries, I'm only guessing.

Tansy: Yes rinse in hot water, and then possibly you can soak the brushes for a few minutes in flavored Listerine (or store brand that kills 99% germs, etc.), as someone else here suggested. Great idea because of the flavored aspect.

I use Listerine to clean mine. I brush my teeth probably six to ten times a day, which includes every time I eat anything. I still don't have my permanent bridges, and am so afraid of infection.

I also brush with Sensodyne and Listerine at least twice a day. And I keep my toothbrushes on a paper towel on my nightstand next to my bed.

Ford: I, too, use various sensitive toothpastes, whatever is on sale. Right now, I'm using Colgate Sensitive multi-protection. Very smooth feeling when brushing and rinsing. I, also, never keep my toothbrushes in the bathroom.

This isn't something I'm concerned about, but if you want to pre-clean toothbrushes, I'd think a run through the dishwasher would do the trick. Or just soak them in hydrogen peroxide for a few minutes and rinse.

It has never occurred to me to clean a brand-new toothbrush.
