It's up to the states to finish the task.  It's up to the residents of the states to demand that their governments get their act together.

See? Like I said. This is exactly the attitude about distribution I would expect at the moment.

ETA: I'd also be willing to bet that there will be states that will refuse to bother with all the work of arranging vaccines for their citizens. That would require they switch gears to admit that Covid is a problem worth going out of their way to combat.

I agree, @Porcelain, Obviously the states have their responsibiity, but they should be able to count on the federal government for guidance and funds. Most important, their compliance will depend on the government's attitude to working together to get us through it. @Cats3000

According to my state's health department, this is and has already been happening.

@deepwaterdotter   Russia already has a vaccine that does not need cold storage.  Supposedly this vaccine lasts 2 yrs & has already been given out to the general public.

The above was on the national news this date (11/11/2020)

@geezerette, what state are you in? I've not read or heard of anything in terms of such support as I outlined.

@suzyQ3

I can only speak for what I've heard my state health officials say in their regular press updates re the bolded portion of your statement.

According to them, the federal health officials have been working in coordination with them in the event of the possible eventuality distribution of this particular vaccine.  So I assume that if that's true with my state, it should be true with the others as well.

Pfizer's vaccine requires storage at - 95 F /-70 C. States have been told to have plans ready for storage and distribution by November 2 ahead of receipt of the vaccine by Nov. 15th. Only three states have a plan nine days after the deadline. How will this logistics issue be accomplished?

I have faith we will do it but I don't think most states will be ready right away.

Sorry, but this is ridiculous.   It sounds to me like Pfizer's way to defend themselves if the vaccine fails ... you didn't keep it cold enough.  Yeah, right.

Anyone here:    Just WHAT is the difference (for the vaccine) between keeping it below freezing, for example 30 degrees F, and  MINUS 95 DEGREES F?

And how long for thawing is too long?  Or do you pop it in the microwave to warm it up?

I haven't seen anything that gives even a reasonable explanation for this.

@willdob3  Just reporting what the national news reported.  The key word here is "supposedly."  Oh, the name of the vaccine is called "Sputnik V. Smiley Tongue

I've seen reports that three Russian medical workers who received the injection have tested positive.

@FrostyBabe1

No thanks.   I asked the question because it's obvious that others have been reading a great deal about it.  Personally, I wouldn't get that vaccine, so I honestly don't care.  Keeping something in such an EXTREME low temperature just doesn't seem right.   JMO
