@Spurt I used to get a lot of the charitable calls, but I would only know if I was home from work sick or something, and out of boredom answered the phone. That didn't last long :-(
I just got so used to never picking up my phone until someone said something. My employer, friends & family all knew - SAY something, and I will pick up. If the call clicked off when they heard a recording, I knew it was garbage. 95% of them did this.
I have had calls where they were looking for a certain person - whom I knew nothing about - and the recording would say, if you are not this person & don't know anything about them, call us & tell us and we'll stop bothering you. I did, and they did. Bill collectors.

@Moonchilde That's exactly what I told my work, family, and friends....start talking and I'll answer....but sometimes if I'm expecting a call from work (sometimes I work from home), or a doctor's office, or from one of my family or friends I'll pick it up and it's not who I expected.....![]()
But letting the telemarketers/robo calls hear your recorded voicemail greeting will result in a quick click......

Thanks to all of you suggesting NoMorobo. I just completed setting it up on my landline (VOIP) and it was difficult and complicated due in large part Comcast's obsession with pin numbers, security numbers and passwords. Too bad they are not as obsessed with blocking unwanted calls then I would not have to do this. I digress, we shall see if this helps. Kudos to all of you in advance.

Most of my unwanted calls have stopped. I have a message on my phone " If we do not recognize your name or your telephone number, we will not be talking to you!" Once they hear that message, I rarely get calls back. If it is someone I know calling - friend, family, doctor's office etc - they usually leave a message. It also helps that my phone has caller id and a voice message telling me caller name and number. I never answer if I do not know the caller or number!!

I like Spurt's friend's idea. Just spheeel them back! Long, drawn-out spheeel, lol.

1-800-notes is another website you can plug the number into and see what it is.

Thanks for starting this thread! So much good information!
I've maxed out the blocking capabilities on my old Unisom phone setup, and it's sorely lacking so I took me newfound feature tidbits over to Amazon and found just what I need...she says wringing her hands with glee! ![]()

Two more days, they have (thanks to Prime)...and then it's robocalls BEGONE!!!
That Block button will be me new best fwend, and I can hardly wait to pounce on it! Only THEN will I "silence" them 24/7!![]()
Thanks again to all the generous posters for their tips. As Barbra says "Free Again"!

Our landline has a caller block feature and we use it. We are able to block 30 calls and we are maxed out. Periodically we will review the list and remove some that have not called in a while.

In our area, the robocalls are random dials, so it makes no difference here whether the phone number is unlisted/unpublished or not.
We NEVER answer the phone unless we recognize the number of the caller.
