Very diplomatic! I'm going to try that! I'm close to someone who incessantly interrupts.

@CatsyCline , This is an example of toxic positivity, it helps no one and devalues the poster and her concerns.

I liked your response to the man, most aren't that forthright; they just endure and, in future, avoid the person if possible.
@occasionalrain , thank you. I agree that it doesn't always work. However, I've learned throughout my life that I will no longer allow people of any gender krap on me. He happens to be a neighbor, single and perhaps lonely. At first DH and I would chat with him if we were out and saw him to be 'neighborly', though over time, learned he thinks he's "all that". We've seen him go through many women visiting him over a period of time and none return. He's very narcissitic.

@Effie54 Such horrible advice from a radio personality.
Would someone actually take a person who suffers from loneliness and ostracize them for talking out of turn?
Not even humane advice.
Everyone ends up alone in time.
Would everyone like to be treated with that advice?

I'm not trying to be funny or demeaning, however, maybe suggest she apply for a position at QVC to be a product host. She'll ask "why?" and then you can gush about how she loves to talk and go on and on and take over and interrupt others, and she'd be a great sales person.
Of course, it could backfire and she'd NEVER stop talking and interrupting!!!
Guess I'm trying to see the lighter side of this problem. Give her a nudge in the right direction. She IS part of the group. ![]()

Talk to her privately, tell her what you shared here, ask if she's having a hearing problem or it's something else & offer to help if you can. I have loud tinnitus, it's sounds like a tornado siren & I have an awful time with the rhythm & flow of conversation...I can't tell if someone is pausing or finished & I know at times I interrupt. My family & friends understand because I told them about my condition & asked them to speak up when I overtalk them...this helps me to be comfortable & confident being part of a conversation. All the best to your friend & you @JeanLouiseFinch.

@Desert Lily , Did you consider that you would be doing her a kindness ? Everyone she encounters won't be aware of her circumstances and might simply be annoyed with her. She might have more friends if she learned to share the conversation.

@QVCkitty1 Ostracizing is a form of bullying. Kids are taught that in school. I don't think that ostracizing a lonely person would do anything except hurt her. I think it's a terrible & cruel thing to do.
There for the grace go all of us.

That's in the eye of the beholder. It seems like the woman constantly makes everything about her and constantly interrupts. I wouldn't be around that. How do you know she's lonely? It could be a personality type that is off-putting.
