How Do You Deal With Cravings?

I'm trying to reduce my salt and sugar intake, and I'm doing well on that. But lately, I've been craving fatty foods, like hamburgers, pizza, french fries, etc.

It's a struggle to not give in to those cravings!

Are you consuming enough calories for your needs? Sometimes when you crave heavier, calorie-dense foods, your body is wanting more calories. Cronometer.com is a good tracking tool.

More water and more activity. Smiley Happy I find that it's really easy to stew in the cravings but just a skosh more difficult, but easily doable, to get up and do some stuff. It can be exercise (always a good idea), or just doing a project or something around the house. It takes your mind off the cravings. Cravings for sugary type stuff and junk food tend to, more often than not, just be just a mental thing that tells you that some junk would taste really good right now. hehe

But the bottom line is replacing the cravings with doing something that takes your mind from them. This kind of craving is probably not so much of a physical need as an emotional one.

More water, exercise, or I brush my teeth. I don't want to eat right after I brush my teeth

Maybe only give in to your cravings only on the weekends or only one day a week. Find a healthy snack that you like and keep it on hand. I like the Fiber One meal bars and the Special K protein shakes. Drink mainly water, cut out all soft drinks and go to the gym. Smile

Re: How Do You Deal With Cravings?

I already have cut out all soda, regular and diet. I don't drink fruit juice, although I may have an orange, an apple a banana. If I have tea, it is unsweetened. I prefer my coffee black. I read labels, I look to see just how much salt and sugar are in foods.

I have already lost 10 pounds.

That's why I said that I'm doing fine in the salt and sugar department, but it's the fats that I'm craving now.

I'm just trying to take it one day at a time, one pound at a time.

I'm trying to do the right thing here.

Re: How Do You Deal With Cravings?

If the craving is for a specific food I give in to it (unless it is a true craving for dark chocolate which is a tell for an oncoming migraine if I eat it).

If it is a craving for a class of food as described in the OP I become very heavy handed using the spices and seasonings on hand on healthier foods, especially trying unusual combinations to create a new taste.

Food cravings? I give in and eat it! lol. Ugh, my downfall is pasta and bread. I very rarely eat baked goods. I don't like salt on anything.

I have a friend who cant have salt and she loves salt. And I shouldn't eat the carbs I eat! I told her why is it every food type item we love is what we cant have! lol.
