Chew gum (sugar free), drink hot tea or coffee because hot drinks make you feel full. If I'm home, I get busy with something or go outside and walk (too cold today!).
I allow myself treats and try to eat them sparingly. I also fall off the wagon now and then.
Still, I feel I'm healthier than I was. While I never struggled with weight issues, I always have had a sweet tooth. So I have to be careful not to go overboard.
Good Luck!

The reason that I'm cutting down on my sodium, is that it makes me retain water, and too much salt is not good for the blood pressure.
Also there is good fats, such as olive oil, and bad fats.
I love eating salmon, but am trying to stay away from fried foods, because they are usually full of the bad fats.

If you have pretty good health and eat a sensible diet, you can include some of the things you crave in your food plan. It's all about moderation.
If it's about a health issue, like needing to restrict salt, know this: the craving will go away after a time of going without.
My husband used to use too much salt, imo. His MD told him he had to cut back, so he stopped adding salt and now he actually complains if we eat something and it's too salty. I do not cook with salt. At home, we make our meals from scratch, so it's pretty easy to control that.

Plaid- You can bake salmon rather than fry it and it's delicious. I've poached salmon too but never fried it.
Years ago when I drastically cut down on carbs that's all I craved. I stuck to proteins, low carb pasta (Dreamfields) and within two weeks the cravings for carbs was pretty much gone.
It's like when one stops eating chocolate-it seems like that's all you want to eat!
I'm with you on low sodium. There are so many food items out there now that say "no salt added" and they didn't replace the sodium with sugars.

I use sea salt. It's still sodium, but the taste is much better and you don't need to use as much. I don't like heavily salted food, but food needs to be seasoned well to taste good for me.
I always bake salmon. It's too good to fry - LOL

That's my favorite way to cook salmon.
Here's what I do.
I take salmon and I brush both sides with olive oil, sprinkle with fresh minced garlic, a little ground black pepper, wrap in aluminum foil, and put in to the oven at about 400 degrees for about 30 - 45 minutes.
It is flavorful and healthy!
Oh, and I prefer wild caught to farm raised.
As for smoked salmon, I love the belly portion of the fish. And my favorite part? The skin! I love eating salmon skin. Yum!

We need good fats in our body, that's important to know. One of the best is EVOO, but there's also canola oil, sesame oil (packed with flavor) and the oil found in avocado.
Need to know, from the American Heart Association:
Does my body need fats?
Yes, it does. Dietary fats are essential to give your body energy and to support cell growth. They also help protect your organs and help keep your body warm. Fats help your body absorb some nutrients and produce important hormones, too. Your body definitely needs fat.

It's a struggle to not give in to those cravings!
How do you deal with you cravings?
You have to train yourself to crave healthy selections. For example, when I make a salad with all my favorite ingredients, it's really the dressing I'm craving. I use non oil pomegranate vinaigrettee and coconut vinegar. I can drive right by a fast food restaurant and it's no longer on my radar. Also, I eat bison burgers for example (once or twice a mo). Also, I snack on raw unsalted cashews which are delicious (and almonds but the cashews taste better, imo. I eat until I'm full and that includes when snacking.

I love salads! I love going to my local Co-Op, and hitting their build-your-own salad bar.
In my salad, I'll put
spinich
sliced black olives
cucumber
broccoli
cherry tomatoes
sliced onions
green onions
hard boiled egg
shredded cheese
beets
And for the dressing, I'll use a vinaigrette.
It is a meal in and of itself!
